  • Great Reading For Military History Readers

The author took his fathers memoirs that were recorded on tape decades earlier. He used them to compose this writing in the first person from his father's vantage point. Because I am a nephew of a World War II European Theatre veteran who never gave any of the details of his service (but since his passing have seen the helmets, guns, and knives he brought back), I felt privileged to see into the life of the civilian turned soldier. I am only part way through the book and can not wait to read more. This is a especially intriguing to me after reading Bill O'Reilly's "Killing Patton" which also goes into details about life and combat in Patton's Third Army.
