    About this product

    Product Information

Reissue of this multimillion copy bestselling autobiography from one of Britain's all time favourite actors The Moon's a Balloon is an account of one of the most remarkable lives Hollywood has ever seen. From early tales of school, army and wartime hi-jinx, Niven shows how, even as an unknown young man, he knew how to live the good life. But it is his astonishing stories of life in Hollywood, working and partying with the legends of the silver screen - Lawrence Oliver, Vivien Leigh, Cary Grant, Elizabeth Taylor, James Stewart, Lauren Bacall, Marlene Dietrich, Noel Coward and dozens of others, while making some of the most acclaimed films of the last century - which turn Niven's memoir into an outright masterpiece.

    • Hollywood warts and all.

A lockdown treasure. I am reading more and this book was read in quick time. As a fan of the authors work a look behind the scenes was compelling. I have now moved on to Bring on the Empty Horses.

    • Good reading.

I'd recommend this book to old and young it's just so well written with a bit in it for everyone. It just shows you a life from the army to Hollywood and back again, it will leave you with a smile on your face from one great actor who mixed with all the big names in Hollywood.

    • Very readable. A lot is left to the read...

Very readable. A lot is left to the reader to infer about Niven's character from the behaviour of those around him. Wonderful inside gossip on the early `talkie' years in Hollywood, as well as the UK watime top brass. Early on, there are harsh prep schools, a dubious older girlfriend, Sandhurst and a Scottich regiment. Less introspective than Flynn's autobiography, it is more wide-ranging and at least as entertaining.
