This binocular has the best power to size ratio. The size is very handy and useable in almost all circumstances. The price was very attrective for this quality glass and workmanship and a metal frame which is sign of quality all by itself. I only find two objections; This hoakie rain-cover should be replaced with a bonafied ocular and objective rubber lens covers. The other is rather a personal issue, I find the binocular being on the heavy side for me to use as a light weight hiker. To bad since that was my purpose. Other than the above two personal observations, you can not buy a better quality binocular of this size for this price anywhere on the market.
The Steiner Predator 10 x 26 binos are good to go. They are light weight and crystal clear. I have replaced my larger 8 x 30 Steiner Predators with this model due to size and weight. The only reason I gave them a 4 out of 5 stars is that they only have a rain guard on the ocular eye pieces and nothing for the objective lens like the 8 x 30 model. Overall a great deal for the price!
I've used a set of Nikon Travelite binoculars (definite overachievers) for better than 15 years (bought them new) for all my hunting/hiking/traveling needs. They're beginning to show their age so I decided to upgrade to the Steiner Predator Pro - I was sadly disappointed. The optical quality of this set of binoculars was simply poor. The build quality and every other feature was very good, but the uniformity of focus in the field of view was very uneven. To be sure, I compared them carefully with three different (and less expensive) binoculars (my Travelites, a set of Steiner Safari Pros owned by my son and a set of Bushnell compacts). All three were far better than the Predators. Considering the good reputation of Steiner, I expect this particular set is defective in some way, so I sent them back and will look for something else.Read full review
I have many pairs of compact binoculars, from Tasco to Nikon and I wanted to see how the Steiners compared. The results were as expected. The Predators were much better than some and marginally better than others. The overall construction was top notch and felt comfortable in my hands. The optics are excellent. They are sharp, contrasty and have little chromatic abrasion. The focusing is fast and precise. The 10x26 Predators are my go to binoculars for my 10x choice. I like them better than my 10x50 Leupold Arcadia 10x50's for most uses.
