Reviews
"...Gritty and Immediate...", "...The most striking thing about the album is Bob's singing, which possesses a ragged, almost sinister authority...but on the old-tyme numbers becomes a nonchalant croon...", 4 Stars Out of 5-"...A Very Good Album...", "Songs like 'Honest With Me' and the fascinating shifting pace of 'Cry a While' show that not only does Dylan have a lot of life left in him and his music, but that he’s still releasing some of his best music.", 5 stars out of 5 - "...A stone-cold Dylan classic... Talk about bringing it all back home: Dylan veers into country, ragtime, vaudeville, deep blues, cocktail-lounge corn, the minstrel show and the kind of rockabilly he must have bashed out with his high school band more than forty years ago...", Included in Magnet's "20 Best Albums of 2001"., Ranked #4 in Spin's "Albums of the Year 2001"., 9 out of 10 - "...Astonishing...It is the rare Dylan album recorded with his touring band, and the versatility and sympathy of this outfit...lets them stand proudly next to The Band as his finest accompanists..."", Ranked #6 "Album of the Year" in Ew's "Best of 2001"., Ranked #15 in Mojo's "100 Modern Classics" -- "His surreal verbal collages borrowed imagery from vintage bluesmen and obscure novelists...", Ranked #1 in Rolling Stone's "Top 10 2001"., Ranked #2 in Mojo's "Best 40 Albums of 2001".

Service was ok, not great. Record was very sloppily packaged and they screwed up my address -- luckily the post office figured it out no thanks to the seller. The record was cheap and the shipping was free so it's hard to complain, but I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone buying expensive items from this seller.

  • Music for tea dances, Is Bob slowing down?

This is more diverse in musical styles than "Time Out Of Mind". The first two tracks Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee and Mississippi have that folk/roots feel of post-70s classics. Along with Lonesome Day Blues - an outright blues rocker - and Po' Boy these are my favourite tracks. Summer Days is pure rockabilly. However, on Bye And Bye, Floater and Moonlight, Bob's obviously out to expose the subversive world of the tea-dance band. A style he regretably explores again on "Modern Times". I'm a Dylan fan and can only recommend this to other Dylan fans. If you are new to his post-70s music I'd recommend in preference "Oh Mercy" or "Time Out Of Mind"

  • love and theft

this is a return to form for the great word smith. and is well worth adding to the collection of both seasoned and new listeners.

  • I agree

UI have to agree wityh previous regviewsyeah i love this album, especially the first two tracks. Quality from the master.

  • Sir bob's still got it!!

Quality album, not far off his very best stuff. Might just make his top ten. Probably a few tracks too long though.
