Review date 19/10/16 Ordered a trap and received two! Hadn't realised that was the offer. That said, we set one trap two weeks ago now and despite the food we've put on each day, only once was it empty and the cage not sprung. We have now set two traps (we're as certain as we can be we only have one rat as it has a destinctive light band on it's tail) bated with chocolate attached to the triggers themselves. Well, today we've caught two squirrels (or the same stupid one twice) and on one occasion the rat was digging the ground very hard at the side of the cage to get at the squirrel. My husband released the squirrel and rebated the trap. For the first time we're leaving the traps set overnight in the hope of catching the rat. I'm sure if it wasn't Houdini reincarnated he'd be caught by now! The fact he isn't, I don't think is anything to do with the trap design. Second review date 30/10/16 By stopping feeding the birds, putting fallen leaves and garden debris in and around the two cages, placing black polythene around the debris on the outside and clearing everything away from where they come from behind the shed, we have now caught 1 adult and 9 self surviving young. They have all been released over a period of a week and a half at the same site miles from any habitation. They like peanut butter. Interestingly all were let out with the opening of the cage in the same direction at the same place. All young went in the same direction but the adult ran passed us in the opposite direction. We still have the cages camouflaged and baited. They are extremely good cages with good trap mechanisms allowing relatively safe release however, my 4 star review is because I think they could come with some help along the lines of the tactics we tried. It would appear rats, by nature, are trap shy.Read full review

I bought one of these initially, and it was such good value and so effective that I later ordered another two. While the first one was faultless, the second two, though almost identical to the first, were definitely less well made and with the trigger mechanism having been altered in design and pretty useless. After modifying the trigger mechanisms myself to be more like that of the first trap, these traps also worked fine, but I shouldn't have needed to do this.

These rat cages are of strong steel construction. They actually have a lock mechanism which is probably unnessary as they have two strong springs that keep the door closed. There one drawback is that the wire that attaches to the bait is not long enough, leaving the bait suspended in the cage. I have caught several rats and a couple of mice. As it is they work quite often but would be perfect if the food attachment wire was at least an inch longer, allowing the bait to rest on the floor of the cage. This small change in design would make the difference between a 4 star score and a 5 star score. I use peanut butter on bread as bait but recently tried a small piece of bacon. Smoked bacon is good because they have a good sense of smell and it seems to overpower the human smell which they fear. Wearing latex gloves when handling the trap and bait also helps and protects against disease. They are good value as having two, doubles your chances of catching a rodent. I am averaging one per night and have caught 21 rodents in the last 3 weeks with these and one similar slightly smaller trap of different manufacture.Read full review

Part of the trap was already rusting on arrival, so I can't say it is good quality. However, it's not a lifetime's investment and will do the job for a while. All we trapped in the end were hedgehogs when we were after the rat we had seen routinely on the night camera. The Hedgehogs were grumpy, but totally unharmed so I can confirm the trap does not hurt the critters. Baited with more Mars bar, and well away from the hedgehog's feeding area (absolutely no chocolate there), we put the trap next to the rat's home. Rat was too canny. We never managed to catch it this way so have had to fall back on bait boxes.

After trying everything available to get rid of squirrel s out of my loft, I bought these and within an hour of putting them up with nuts in them I had caught two, put them back up and caught another two, a fantastic result, a brilliant product , hope I never need to use it again as sealed up an entry point.a great, well worth the money product.
