If you’re an action fan this is a very enjoyable film, it’s very fast paced with some great effects. Excellent use of the ‘implanted memories device’ drives the plot, twisting different realities, making it compulsive viewing. (Leave your brain in neutral and enjoy the ride) Second & third viewings are a must as it’s such a fast paced film. Plot summary: Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) a construction worker has vivid dreams about Mars. Because of the dreams, he decides to have a virtual holiday on Mars, by going to holiday memory transplant company "Rekall INC" During the procedure he becomes paranoid and believes that he is an agent who is under threat of being killed. Which memories are real? So begins a fast action packed SF thriller. This is the 2 Disk Special Edition, some nice ‘extras’ includedRead full review
In Paul Verhoeven's wild sci-fi action movie Total Recall, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a 21st-century construction worker who discovers that his entire memory of the past derives from a memory chip implanted in his brain. Schwarzenegger learns that he's actually a secret agent who had become a threat to the government, so those in power planted the chip and invented a domestic lifestyle for him. Once he has realized his true identity, he travels to Mars to piece together the rest of his identity, as well as to find the man responsible for his implanted memory. Verhoeven has created a fast, furious action film with Total Recall, filled with impressive stunts and (literally) eye-popping visuals. Though the film bears only a passing resemblance to the Philip K. Dick short story it was based on ("We Can Remember It For You Wholesale"), the movie is an entertaining, if very violent, ride.Read full review
In a futuristic world, construction worker Doug Quaid obsesses about taking a vacation on the planet Mars. His wife objects, so Doug instead opts to have an artificial memory of a Martian holiday implanted into his mind. The trouble is, during the implantation procedure, Quaid suffers a strange reaction. Why? It seems as though he has already been to Mars, but his memories of his journey have been wiped... Now secret agents and the cohorts of a megalomaniacal industrialist are out to get him. Can Quaid experience total recall, and finally figure out just why everyone is trying to stop him from reaching the red planet?
Total Recall, was another money making film for Arnie. He plays a man who finds he had another life, that of a secret agent, before his current one! This takes him to Mars, where he uncovers a massive conspiracy. Lots of gratuitious violence, and dry humour follows. An excellent action movie, which my partner did enjoy.
