Sharp out of the box?
The knife was extremely dull out of the box I could easily run my finger down the edge. All the reviews I read mentioned razor sharp. It also had a defect on the edge and the wood handle had some kind of orange brown stuff on it and was very rough. I sanded down the handle a put some linseed oil on it. I also am having the blade professionally sharpened. As a knife user and collector for over 15 years I am very disappointed in this knife and Condor quality control since it is obvious the knife was never completely finished.The knife was extremely dull out of the box I could easily run my finger down the edge. What a Great Machete
If you are looking for a Machete to last 2 Lifetimes this one will fill the bill. This machete was everything I was hoping for and more. The leather sheath is a very high quality and reinforced at all the right places and the stitching appears to be very adequate. Heavy duty is an understatement. The blade will need a little honing to be made razor sharp but that was expected. Besides you need to spend some 'Quality Time' with this blade to make it 'yours'. I will rub the handle down with some boiled linseed oil and put a lanyard on it as well. Buy with confidence. Best chopping machete
Condor's village parang machete is probably the best chopping machete. The high carbon steel holds an edge very well. However, high carbon steel is subject to rust and must be protected. I used fixin wax (recipes for fixin wax and sealing wax available on you tube). Any light oil will also work. Don't use penetration oil which is not a good rust preventive. I highly recommend all of the Condor knifes and machetes.Condor's village parang machete is probably the best chopping machete. The high carbon steel holds an edge very well. Shadow of blade cuts !
Great machete It was paper slicing sharp out of the box and has enough thickness to chop limbs with one whack. As Troy Landry might say..." I hold that machete up to the light and the shadow of the blade cut off two table legs".....very pleased so far.
