Chuck Noland is Mr. Fed-Ex. He eats, sleeps, and lives Fed-Ex. To him, TIME, is the most important thing in the world. He is obsessed with saving time and making Fed-Ex the fastest way to ship to anywhere in the world. All of this dedication comes with a price though. His long time girlfriend, Kelley, played by Helen Hunt, is a student working on her PHD. Together they try to find time for a relationship in between his challenging, globe-trotting job. He is unexpectedly called away on Christmas night, and at the airport, just before boarding his Fed-Ex flight to Asia, he surprisingly presents her with an engagement ring, saying "I'll be right back. . ." His plane goes down over the South Pacific. He is the only survivor and somehow manages to get to a raft and winds up on a deserted island for years. Suddenly, he has an idea of how to escape the reefs surrounding the island on a homemade bamboo raft. After drifting aimlessly for many days, he is spotted and rescued by the crew of a container ship who just happens to spot whats left of his raft. Now, one month later, he is returning to Memphis, to the Fed-Ex home base of operations. This is amazing. Nobody even thought that he was still alive, much more that he would ever be seen again. But here he is, home again. Unfortunately, after years of hanging-on, Kelley has moved on and is now married and has a child. Brokenhearted, she can't face him. After years of isolation, struggling to keep his sanity, everything seemingly is lost. After a corporate "Welcome Home" party, that night Chuck takes a taxi to Kelley's home. He has to see her. . . They are still madly in love with each other, but must face facts. Time has passed, other people's feelings must be respected, and reality must be faced. This was an enjoyable movie, although a bit predictable. Still, good entertainment and skillfully acted by all.Read full review
This is one of Tom Hanks best films yet! I certainly enjoyed it. Tom Hanks plays a play called Chuck Noland who works for Federal Express, who's always on the go at a moment's notice. He's called away for business on Christmas night and his girlfriend and he have Christmas in their car. When he leaves the car the last thing he says to her is that he'll be right back. Well that doesn't happen. The plane ends up in an unexpected storm, they lose radio contact, they go off course and it crashes. Chuck is the sole survivor of the crash, and washes ashore of a deserted island. While stranded there, he must learn how to survive in the wilderness by himself. A definite must see.
I have always loved this movie and Tom Hanks is a superb star. I watch this movie on a frequent basis and enjoy it every single time.
