Reviews
"Skillful plotting, well- developed characters (a blind little girl is adorable), a delightful romance, toxic family dynamics, and a puzzling mystery make this story a rewarding read that will appeal to both romance and women's fiction fans." -Library Journal -Providence Journal on A Winter Wedding "In her latest, Novak neatly entwines contemporary romance and women's fiction by delivering the emotionally compelling romance readers expect while at the same time thoughtfully exploring the other relationships every woman has in her life. Add a gothic-tinged plot, and you have a book with wide reader appeal."- Booklist "The Secret Sister by Brenda Novak is indeed the best romantic thriller I have read... Brenda Novak has a raw talent for bringing her novels to life. Realistic, suspenseful, and an edge of your seat romance that will have readers coming back for more."-The San Francisco Book Review "This emotional novel showcases Novak's exceptional talent at creating genuine characters and real-life situations we sometimes try to dodge. The power of family is strong, and the element of mystery is stable throughout this romance. Fairham Island is painted as a picturesque seaside town, but the debut to this series could have readers believing there are a lot of buried secrets and stories to be told surrounding the residents' wishes for peace and quiet. Completely engrossing with a twist at the end you wouldn't dare dream of!"-RT Book Reviews (4.5 Star Top Pick) "A rare treat. Brenda Novak draws you in from the first page." -Barbara Freethy, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author "Every book is a winner! Brenda Novak doesn't just write fabulous stories, she writes keepers." -New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery "You know that feeling of anticipation you get when you're about to enjoy a delicious and uncommon treat? That's the feeling I get whenever I start a Brenda Novak book." -USA TODAY "The Secret Sister is a sweet story that touches on the trials of life and illustrates how death, loss, abuse, despair, and unexpected trials can make us stronger...This is a great book that romance readers and fans of general fiction are bound to enjoy."-Portland Book Review, "The worst part of any Brenda Novak book is the last page. I always want more. Luckily there is usually another Novak book in the wings. The Whiskey Creek series is an absolute delight and this newest installment is...so satisfying I ran out of superlatives. Brenda Novak outdid herself in Take Me Home for Christmas." -Fresh Fiction, "A rare treat. Brenda Novak draws you in from the first page." -Barbara Freethy, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, "You know that feeling of anticipation you get when you're about to enjoy a delicious and uncommon treat? That's the feeling I get whenever I start a Brenda Novak book." -USA TODAY, "Novak delivers with This Heart of Mine. She's created multi-dimensional characters you can't help but admire and love. This heartwarming, page-turning romance will keep you up late at night to see what happens next. Brenda takes impossible situations and makes the reader weep, laugh and fall in love before they finish the story. Grab this book...a blanket...and curl up next to the fireplace. Be sure and give yourself a full day to read this one all the way through. You won't be sorry." -Catherine Bybee, New York Times Bestselling Author, "It's steamy, it's poignant, it's perfectly paced-it's When Lightning Strikes and you don't want to miss it." -Happy Ever After on USATODAY.com, "Once again Novak's Whiskey Creek springs to life in all its realistic, gritty Gold Country glory as two determined, likable people come to terms with their pasts and give love a chance. This poignant, heartfelt romance puts a refreshing spin on the classic reunion/secret baby theme." -Library Journal on Come Home to Me, "[Home to Whiskey Creek is an] engrossing, character-rich story that takes a hard look at responsibility, loyalty and the results of telling (or concealing) the truth." -Library Journal, "[Brenda Novak] weaves a tight story of human weakness and longing, with cross threads of passion and hope. One needn't wonder why Novak is a New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author. Just read Come Home to Me." -Examiner.com, "Every book is a winner! Brenda Novak doesn't just write fabulous stories, she writes keepers." -New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery

Synopsis
Did she once have a sister? Has her mother lied all these years? Why? After a painful divorce, Maisey Lazarow returns to Fairham, the small island off the South Carolina coast where she grew up. She goes there to heal--and to help her brother, Keith, a deeply troubled man who's asked her to come home. But she refuses to stay in the family house. The last person she wants to see is the wealthy, controlling mother she escaped years ago. Instead, she finds herself living next door to someone else she'd prefer to avoid--Rafe Romero, the wild, reckless boy to whom she lost her virginity at sixteen. He's back on the island, and to her surprise, he's raising a young daughter alone. Maisey's still attracted to him, but her heart's too broken to risk... Then something even more disturbing happens. She discovers a box of photographs that evoke distant memories of a little girl, a child Keith remembers, too. Maisey believes the girl must've been their sister, but their mother claims there was no sister. Maisey's convinced that child existed. So where is she now?

    • Intriguing novel that was both light and heavy in content.

I really enjoyed this novel. It had an intriguing theme, human and family stories that were compelling, and I wanted to turn the page, Woven into the story was the backdrop of an island setting. Having spent many vacations on the North and South Carolina coast, it was a real plus.
