About this product

Product Information

THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW is a magical phenomenon unlike anything ever before seen onscreen. Borrowing largely from cinema's horror conventions, the film begins as an innocent young couple is stranded at the home of a mad scientist who is building the perfect man. The castle is filled with a most bizarre group of characters who worship their master, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played magnificently by the fabulously sexy Tim Curry, in leather jacket, pearls, fishnet stockings, and heavy makeup. Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) are forced to examine their own sexuality as the voluptuous doctor releases the hidden desires in each of them.Based on the stage musical by Richard O'Brien (who also appears in the film as Riff Raff), the film comes alive with unforgettable song-and-dance numbers that have come to represent the sexual liberation of the 1970s. The outstanding costuming and makeup, the terrific acting by a group of relative unknowns (Curry, O'Brien, Bostwick, Sarandon, Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn, Meat Loaf), and the memorable songs ("Time Warp," "Sweet Transvestite") help make THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW one of the most bizarrely entertaining and satisfying musicals ever made.

Rocky Horror Picture Show ; what fun to watch.

Its just a jump to the left. Time warp applies for the good memories this movie evokes thinking back to those late night midnight shows in the late seventies and early eighties. If there was a show close to where I live now, chances are there would be a group of us that would stay up late and go if the walkers fit in the isles. lol

  • Tim Curry's Finest Hour

This film is not for everyone. You may question its morality, and the second half lags, as if the scriptwriter had already exhausted all the really great ideas in the first half and decided, "Let's put on a show!" The floor show kind of doesn't fit with the plot, and the viewer is left wondering if Frank, the transvestite mad scientist who creates a studly boy toy for his absolute pleasure, was right or wrong. But let's face it, Brad and Janet were just TOO uptight to enjoy life before they met Frank, the songs are incredible, and Tim Curry's performance as Frank is nothing short of brilliant. The contrast between Frank, who looks disturbingly sexy in fishnets and a corset, is so far removed from Curry's usual masculine upper crust British characters ...

  • Too Bad The "Show" is Nearly Gone...

Classic! In order to do Rocky Horror, you have to know Rocky Horror. The movie on its own is pretty boring, I have to admit. However, the cult phenomenon that was a night out at The Rocky Horror Picture Show, was once something not to be missed. Too bad hardly any theaters will let casts perform it anymore! This DVD features an additional soundtrack of various casts shouting various lines, which is a great idea on the surface. Unfortunately, they're never shouting out the same lines and talk over eachother so often that it gives me a headache. (and I'm a Rocky veteran)I got this so my own older children might be able to experience the show, and it almost works. I'd suggest downloading a few scripts (with shouted lines added) from the internet and picking your favorite before you watch ...

  • RHPS is a classic. Some would say classicly BAD, but...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult classic. Nice to finally have it on DVD. It's not quite the same as seeing the film in a small theater with a hundred or so of your strangest friends. I used to play the part of Riff-Raff in a weekly midnight showing in Atlanta, GA. This is a nice way to relive old memories and pass along the film to another generation so they can say, "Man! This film is BAD! But it's just so bad that it's hilarious." For anyone who has NOT seen the film, go see it first at a midnight showing show you can get the full effect. Then... come back and get it on DVD.

  • Better In The Theatre, Fun At A Party, Stinks Alone

I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show in the Chelsea Theatre in Manhattan, and it was great. Actor/Fans dressed all the parts and acted out scenes in the front of the theatre. Fans seated in the audience screamed funny and obscure things at the screen. It was like being drunk without drinking. Live theatre for the poor (cost just a regular ticket to the movies $10). Ingenious. The DVD lacks the crowd mentality. It's always fun at a Halloween party, but I'd never sit and watch it myself alone. I'd feel I alone was talking to the screen, kind of cuckoo. I assume most big cities have a Rocky Horror showing with the live actors. Maybe not. If you can get to a showing, though, I fully reccommend it. It's not exactly life-changing, but its fun and inexpensive entertainment. If you can't get to a ...
