Synopsis
Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not. Boundaries impact all areas of our lives: Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us and under what circumstances -- Mental boundaries give us the freedom to have our own thoughts and opinions -- Emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and disengage from the harmful, manipulative emotions of others -- Spiritual boundaries help us to distinguish God's will from our own and give us renewed awe for our Creator -- Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limits and limitations. When confronted with their lack of boundaries, they ask: - Can I set limits and still be a loving person? - What are legitimate boundaries? - What if someone is upset or hurt by my boundaries? - How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money? - Aren't boundaries selfish? - Why do I feel guilty or afraid when I consider setting boundaries? Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend offer biblically-based answers to these and other tough questions, showing us how to set healthy boundaries with our parents, spouses, children, friends, co-workers, and even ourselves., Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. This is the one! Life changer

As with all new books, I opened to see a page or two, and I couldn't put it down. In the beginning, authors describe what it's like to live with injured boundries, and all I could utter was 'I know, right?!!' To anyone who wants to learn how to take your power back and be in full charge of your life regardless of actions of others or circumstances life throws at you, I highly HIGHLY recommend this book. For years I have been searching for answers that are found on the pages of this book. Countless friends, coworkers, councelors, therapists, and other books don't hold a candle to this best seller. This is a life changer, and I am so grateful that a still small voice miraculously lead me to it. After decades of abuse and mental/emotional enslavement, my life was all about anticipating ...

    • Top critical review

How to set boundaries and the pitfalls of not doing so.

The information is excellent; I didn't realize this particular copy was not the latest version. The copyright date is 1992 and I believe the latest edition is 2017. The later edition has information that would be useful on digital boundaries.

    • Boundaries

I find boundaries to help me explain what is expected and it helps others feel safe and on the same page. Would highly recommend it. Now, boundaries in dating and boundaries in marriage were books that I got less benefit from. I would also recommend these authors as they wrote some books on parent bonding. Most boundary issues stem from home and lack of consistency/trust. People are resilient and we can heal!

    • Everyone needs Boundaries!

I first read this book a number of years ago, and it was a real wake-up call for me. Dr. Townsend is able to communicate a difficult issue in no-nonsense, clear, understandable language. This book has helped me understand what healthy boundaries are and how to set them, and I have used it to help others as I work with clients as a counselor. I highly recommend it for anyone, whether you think you have boundary issues or not! It can help you understand others as well as yourself.

    • It's a very necessary book.

I loved it a couple years ago, & now my new husband is devouring it & hopes to share much of its content with his very depressed 46 year old son - today.
