Synopsis
This international bestseller about the shepherd boy Santiago who learns how to live his dreams includes an inspiring afterword by the author., "My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky." Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams." Every few decades a book is published that changes the lives of its readers forever. The Alchemist is such a book. With over a million and a half copies sold around the world, The Alchemist has already established itself as a modern classic, universally admired. Paulo Coelho's charming fable, now available in English for the first time, will enchant and inspire an even wider audience of readers for generations to come. The Alchemist is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers and across the Egyptian desert to a fateful encounter with the alchemist. The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as only a few stories have done, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, above all, following our dreams., "My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky." Every Human ShouLd rEad thiS Novel...

It's rare to find a simple read with the underlying ability to change lives... yet, that is exactly what Paulo Coelho has done. This novel paves the way to thought provoking treasures. .. that will withstand the test of time. At the end of this story, you will take a deep breath, dry your eyes, and last... you will, in your mind, start seeing things within your own life that you never appreciated before. Possibly you will find your own treasure.

      Waste of time

Book was a waste of time! Bottom line, "follow your dream" -- overly simplistic. Maybe ok for a teenager, but not an adult. And nearly every page had lots of ink highlighting and underlining -- which I expected because it was in "Usable" condition -- but also the long comments written in the margins were really distracting and not at all helpful.

    • Entertaing and an easy read

The Alchemist was a wonderful book to read. I particularly likes the unique plot and great writing techniques. The book is simply about a boy who is on an adventure, or mission, of sorts to fulfill his Personal Legend and find his treasure. In the novel, the main character faces challenges, learns some of life's most valuable lessons, and experiences the journey of a lifetime. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading. It should only take about 2-3 days to read. My ONLY complaint was that, at one part of the book, the plot seemed very unrealistic. But it's a great story if you are looking for a new book to read.

    • The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

I've been listening to comments about The Alchemist for a while, from cab drivers to Will Smith, but haven't found the opportunity to purchase and reading it. As with everything, the right moment came, and believe me I am a happier person now than I was before reading The Alchemist. The plot reflects the traveling stories of the main character, Santiago, from Andalusia, Spain, who is in search of his "call" in life or as Coelho names it, his "Personal Legend". I don't want to ruin the tale for you; The Alchemist is enchanting and full of symbolism. The key issue in the book is to make the reader aware of his or her God-given potential. That's all, a sincere reminder of what we can become if we follow our heart and hunches. There is no political correctness in it and this book ...
