Spectacular! Wondrous and engaging while also being educational and illuminating. Second in its class only to "One Hundred Years of Solitude".

  • Quirky, brainy, Magical Realism-y.

So much easier to follow than some of his later work (I'm looking at you, Satanic Verses). It's entertaining and teaches you a bit about 20th century Indian and Pakistani history and culture. There is some great dry and dark humor. If you enjoyed One Hundred Years of Solitude, give this one a whirl. It seems like Rushdie was influenced by García Márquez.

  • MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN, The Booker's Booker

The BOOKER'S BOOKER! Amazing book. Unlike THE SATANIC VERSES, this book has genuine literary merit, historical accuracy, compelling characters and enormous zest.
