DO YOU LIKE RETRO?
Well, since I'm the author of this book (part of a series) I guess you could say I'm biased. However, I don't get royalties from this publisher, so my thoughts aren't based on sales. I had a lot of fun doing the retro series. I'm a child of the 50's/60's and can relate to the look, the impression of a better happier time, and, (of course), the food. Yeah, yeah,yeah...I know...much of it is looked upon in horror by "them" (a.k.a. doctors, nutritionists, and people who believe in eating tofu and twigs)But, I see much of it as friendly food. Easy,(unless you're a big fan of just nuking your grub),usually cheap to make, and let's admit it - comfortable and nostalgic. Oh, and it can be healthy (if you switch fatty ingredients around etc....er....which probably makes it bland and ... Anyway, one of the things I tell people about my retro cookbooks is that they're much more than recipes. I guess you could say that's my own personal "gimmick". There's plenty of interesting blurbs and sections to read (i.e. - Retro Beach Bash has a lot more about beach related pastimes than just hot dogs, toasted marshmallows, and potato salad spiced by sand. There's beachcombing, surfing,fishing,whale watching etc.) One more thing about the retro books - they're fun to look at. I spent a lot of time convincing the publisher to use plenty of vintage graphics from 50's magazines as well as photos of items from my personal retro collection. The books are great colorful fun. I hope you'll check out the retro series of cookbooks, the first 6 anyway (I did)The publisher is Collector's Press in Portland, Oregon. But, I've seen plenty of copies on half.com and that's where I go to get them (cheap!) to give to friends etc. Thanks, Linda Everett Oh, I also did a really cool cookbook on diners with Cumberland House Publishers. Great Book
Great fun cookbook. The recipes remind you of the ones your Grandma would cook. This is a series by Linda Everett. This series of books are illustrated beautifully.
