    Excellent Encyclopedia on Wood and Woodworking.

    I have purchased several copies of this for friends and family who are woodworkers, after first purchasing and devouring a copy for myself. There is a ton of useful information in the book, so at the right price there is something in it for anyone. The book covers a LOT of territory. Engler goes into some history of furniture and some discussion of furniture styles that weren't my cup of tea, but his discussion of wood characteristics, different kinds of tools, machinery and metallurgy, as well as his information regarding joinery, jigs and finishing I found especially useful. When you can find a used copy for less than $5 I think it is a steal.
