    Photography is nice but not the food

    The recipes are meant for larger groups than four. They are heavy on ingredients and aren’t all that different from rice and beans and standard Mexican fare. Lots of beef and pork, a little seafood, a un-fun semi dessert page or two. A few fish recipes do look to be tempting. Book is beautifully laid out, photographs are nicely done even if a little dark and the family story behind the restaurant is impressive.

    El Charro Cafe by Carlotta Flores, pub. 1998

    Wonderful cookbook--much prefer it to the copycat El Charro Cafe book (by Stern & Stern, published 4 years later). The latter books appears to have the same fantastic recipes, but without some of the helpful notes, tips and info that Flores puts into her book. Get this original book if you can.
