SynopsisThe New York Times and Wall Street Journal Nonfiction Bestseller that explores the gripping Dyatlov Pass incident that took the lives of nine young Russian hikers in 1959. What happened that night on Dead Mountain? In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the mountain climbing incident--unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes--have led to decades of speculation over the true stories and what really happened. Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident delves into the untold story through unprecedented access to the hikers' own journals and photographs, rarely seen government records, dozens of interviews, and author Donnie Eichar's retracing of the hikers' fateful journey in the Russian winter. An instant historical nonfiction bestseller upon its release, this is the dramatic real story of what happened on Dead Mountain. GRIPPING AND BIZARRE: This is a fascinating portrait of young adventurers in the Soviet era, and a skillful interweaving of the hikers' narrative, the investigators' efforts, and the author's investigations. Library Journal hailed "the drama and poignancy of Eichar's solid depiction of this truly eerie and enduring mystery." FOR FANS OF UNSOLVED MYSTERIES: Unsolved true crimes and historical mysteries never cease to capture our imaginations. The Dyatlov Pass incident was little known outside of Russia until film producer and director Donnie Eichar brought the decades-old mystery to light in a book that reads like a mystery. • Dyatlov Pass Mystery definitively solved in DEAD MOUNTAIN by author Donnie Eichar

I have been intrigued and fascinated by the tragic mystery of the Dyatlov Pass for many years. In 1959 nine experienced hikers/mountain climbers in the Ural Mountains in the former Soviet Union did not return from their trip. When search parties were sent out to find them, their tent was discovered with huge knife tears in it - made from the inside! As though something horrific had occurred inside the tent that sent the nine young, healthy, highly educated and mentally stable hikers running for their lives into 30 degrees below zero temperatures and extremely high winds. None of them had bothered to put on their boots as all the boots were neatly lined up inside the tent. There were no signs of struggle or violence inside the tent. Eventually all nine bodies were discovered not far from their camp site, none of them wearing their thermal boots and not properly dressed for the intense cold, snow and wind in this unforgiving climate. The official conclusion was that they were killed by an "unknown compelling force." This has left the incident open for 50 years of conspiracy theories concerning just what this "unknown compelling force" was. None of these theories came close to adequately explaining what happened to these nine young people. If you want to find out what most likely DID happen and is certainly the most scientific, logical and sane theory, read Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar. After reading this book in just two sittings (I couldn't put it down!), now I feel that this tragic mystery has finally been put to rest.

  • The "Cold Case"

A co-ed band of adventurers undertake a challenging climb. They do not return. Search and rescue teams discover their remains and the unsolved mystery gives rise to wild theories. A recent investigation reopens this "cold case." The findings will surprise you. Physics is the key to understanding what really happened to these Soviet Union college students. This is the sort of mystery Mr. Sherlock Holmes would have enjoyed.

  • Dead mountain

Excellent account of the true story of some wilderness enthusiasts, who get more then they bargained for when they enter the Ural Mountains, And not one of the party makes it out alive,! Compelling detail plus not watered down like the stupid movie that was made about the same experience.
