Captain 'Sully' Sullenberger's most dramatic experience - landing a disabled jet filled with passengers on the Hudson River - successfully - with no loss of life! This book will instill a tremendous amount of confidence in the aviation industry. The level of training that Sully Sullenberger gained in his life as an aviator paid off in the last minutes of what could have been a tragic flight, saving the entire crew and passengers. His split second processing of the situation and decision making were the result of years of flying experience and it paid off in a successful 'water landing' of the aircraft. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever flown or anticipates flying. It is a testament to the entire airline industry and the hard work of everyone of their employees - every day.Read full review

This is a must read for any aviation enthusiast who can learn from other's experiences. Sullenberger's background as a glider pilot and his talent to assess emergency situations immediately keeps the reader on the edge of suspense! Also notable is the interaction that Sully has with the passengers as well as the emergency personnel that assisted the rescue in the Hudson of all the passengers. This is such an unusual situation that a fictional novel could not be orchastrated and written to the degree that true facts have brought to the reader. This is an excellent book, signed by Sully, and it holds a special place in my library! I would recommend it to anyone who has interest in aviation, non-fictional experiences, and how a tragic premise can sometimes lead to a successful non-fatal ending. Kudos to Zaslow for the writing and of course to Sully and his most professional crew for safeguarding the passengers as if they were extended family!Read full review
It's a straightforward, clear telling of the life experiences and lessons which enabled Sully to pull off the emergency landing in the Hudson River. The central theme is that hard work, training, education and experience can become a lifestyle of preparedness. The story is inspiring precisely because it makes excellence seem obtainable to anyone willing to pay the price. The telling is understated and matter of fact, an approach which appropriately reflects the levelheadedness of the author. It's a remarkable account.
This book did not just revolve around the flight 1549, instead giving you insight to Captain Sullenberger's life. It allowed you to feel like you were part of his family. From the trials of trying to start a family to the Miracle on the Hudson, the book never gets boring. It proves that the years of flying this man had definitely played a huge role in the final outcome of the landing. It was easy to read, I totally enjoyed it!
This is the story of the right man at the right place and at the right time. Only a handful of pilots could have pulled off this fantastic feat or airmanship. 155 souls still walk this earth with no ill effects thanks to Capt. Sullenberger. The entire crew of Cactus 1549 deserve our highest admiration.
