Lots of Bass for the Money
Overall the Squire Paranormal bass '54 is a nice bass for the money, especially if you can find it open box. If you go in with reasonable expectations I think you will be pleased. This would make an excellent bass for a beginner and is great for intermediate and advanced players too. The good: - The neck feels great. The fretwork is awesome. Nut is cut perfectly. Fits in the neck pocket like a glove. It is a gloss neck so if you don't like that it may not be for you. - The setup out of the box was good. Neck had perfect relief and intonation was close. Bridge saddles were a little high for me but I like really low action. - Stacked pots are cool. You can individually control the volume and tone of each pickup. - Pickups are good. Sounds like a jazz. You can get pretty close to a p bass ... Overall the Squire Paranormal bass '54 is a nice bass for the money, especially if you can find it open box. Easy to swap out though. - The pick guard on mine is sloppily cut. For the price, not a deal breaker. - A little more hum than I'd like when soloing pickups. I've heard much worse though. - A bit heavy. Invest in a nice wide strap. - I don't like the stock strings. I went with some black nylon tape wounds. Looks sharp and sounds fantastic. If you see a really good deal on this bass, buy it. If you are a beginner looking for a good starter bass, buy it. It will be hard to find more bass for the money than this.

Love the vintage vibe of this bass coupled with the J-Bass pups and tone. It also plays as good as it looks. If you're looking for a vintage look with modern playability and tone, this is the bass you've been looking for! And, you "name brand snobs" don't be put off this Squier. Trust me own several vintage instruments. This bass is the real deal! It's well worth the price of admission! Get one! Love the vintage vibe of this bass coupled with the J-Bass pups and tone.
