About this product

Product Information

BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF is a wild mix of martial arts, horror, and French period drama. Grégoire de Fronsac (Samuel Le Bihan), a charming naturalist and libertine, arrives in Gevaudan with his companion, Mani (Mark Dacascos), a taciturn Mohawk Iroquois Indian with amazing fighting skills. Fronsac has been sent by the king to investigate a mysterious beast that is slaughtering women and children across the countryside. The local gentry include the friendly Marquis Thomas D'Apcher (Jérémie Rénier), Jean-François de Morangias (Vincent Cassel), a one-armed adventurer with a suspicious nature, and his beautiful sister, Marianne (Emilie Dequenne of ROSETTA). Though Fronsac is immediately attracted to Marianne, he still finds time to visit Sylvia (Monica Bellucci), a mysterious prostitute with a penchant for sharp objects. Fronsac and Mani quickly realize that the killer is not a wolf, but something bigger and far more deadly. As they attempt to track the beast, they encounter unexpected resistance from the locals, and find themselves in grave danger. BROTHERHOOD, a huge hit in France, is a uniquely entertaining film, featuring stunning fight scenes, suspense, and campy high drama. Director Christophe Gans captures it all with a visual panache few Hollywood directors can match.

    LOVE This Movie...

Saw theatrical version of this movie back when I had cable and a TV. Cut the cord, but the streaming services have gotten as expensive, if not more, than cable so have not been able to watch the movie again, but always remembered how great it was. Having and watching the Director's Cut has been great. Powerful movie, with wonderful storyline and I love the actors here. The subtitles go a bit fast sometimes but that worked fine for me. The cinematography was excellent, the color was perfect; couldn't ask for more. The action scenes were done very well and the extra footage added back made for a better movie. Have to say I also enjoyed the bonus features also...

    Overly long and completely ridiculous!

Anyone who has read accounts of the Beast of Gevaudan will either be rolling on the ground laughing or completely incredulous at this absolutely asinine take on it. Won't give any spoilers for those who want to take a chance and buy it but with all the martial arts and running thru the woods with Native American face paint it should have been called Jackie Chan Meets Last of the Mohicans. If I had spent only a nickel on this would have felt ripped off.

  • The Brotherhood of The Wolf: AWESOME!

This movie has everything all wrapped up into one; a gripping plot, drama, mystery, violence and intrigue - and it pulls you in from the jump. A scientist (Samuel Le Bihan) and his friend (Mark Dacascos) are on the trail of a horrible monster, who kills at will and wrecks havoc on the French countryside, in this 18th century French period piece. But nothing is what it seems to be, so prepare for some surprises (no, I'm not going to spoil this great plot by spilling the beans, etc). It's full of drama, mystery, great martial arts fight scenes, horror, great costumes, fantastic scenery, romance, politics, and a heck of a plot that keeps you thinking and guessing. You are going to love it! Wickedly done, gripping, surprisingly good; you'll be thinking about it after it ends. Well done! ...

  • Action, Horror, Martial Arts - rolled into one film!

This film combines action, horror, martial arts and even political intrigue into one well-done film. It is based on real life events of over 100 people killed by a supposed werewolf in 1760's France. Capable acting by less than well-known French actors, with excellent CGI effects and even some assistance from Jim Henson's Muppet creature workshop. Visually excellent with great sound. The second disc contains several hours of bonus features and background material that show the dedicated effort that went into the production. An entertaining film and well worth owning if you are into this genre.

  • DVD Brotherhood of the Wolf

One of my two sons had bought it and recommended it to me. They had seen it at the theater with subtitles and said it was so good in a few minutes they didn't even notice it was with subtitles. The DVD had a language choice so can be watched in English! It is romantic, exciting, incredible special effects and the "extras" are worth watching, especially the fight scenes and special effects ones. It has panorama, wolves, and an amazing story from a French legend. Just well done. NOT for kids. I bought one for my other son for Christmas and one for a friend for a gift.
