If you're like me, a horror flick is more effective if much of the horror is left up to the imagination, eschewing all the hokey gore and CGI imagery of most newer films of the genre. Blair Witch delivers this kind of terror by the bucketful. Though produced with pocket change, this film seemingly utilizes its low budget to its own advantage. The story of three college kids setting out to do a documentary about a local urban legend near Burkittsville, Maryland starts out calmly enough-but as the three go into the woods for the weekend with 2 cameras, one a grainy black-and-white, things quickly get out of hand. We watch through the "eyes" of their cameras as something malevolent is leading them in circles, and starts terrorizing them at night with frightening noises and wierd talismans made of tree branches. As their protracted (and forced) stay in the woods progresses, we watch as the kids spiral down into psychological depths of terror so palpable even we feel it. The only "downside" to this R-rated flick is the perpetual use of the "f"-word by the main characters, but this actually makes the film more realistic given today's profane society. I will always be ill at ease anytime I'm ever in the woods at night because of this movie. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure tingled my spine! 4****Read full review
Great movie to own and watch repeatedly, though it's 20 years old. It has captions, which the DVD version has, which is great! The only negative thing I can say about this video is that there are previews for the first 14 minutes before the feature begins.

Much better in VHS rather then DVD. Always buy tape whenever possible. Ending was weird. Not sure if dude in corner was Josh, if he was urinating or just looking at wall while friend was being killed. Hmmm. BOYSTOWNDJ@YAHOO.COM
The Blair Witch Project was one of the first "shaky" camera movies that bust out onto the scene. It was made by two young filmmakers with barely any money. The movie was hyped as a documentary of three young filmmakers heading out to research old murders in a forest. As the movie goes on they realize that they have stumbled into the real thing. The horror factor is watching the three of them unravel and then the movie suddenly ends with psychological "What"? It let's you form your own opinion of what actually happens. 4/5 Latsyrhc Tamarack Collectibles
