About this product

Product Information

Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker--of AIRPLANE! and NAKED GUN fame--wrote and directed this genre-hopping slapstick juggernaut which lampoons World War II spy films and Elvis movies, making many other satirical stops along the way. East Germany is planning a cultural festival, and invites rock-and-roll singer Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer) (but only after Leonard Bernstein can't make it). The festival, however is a mere distraction so that the Germans can launch a secret attack on a submarine fleet without being detected. Nick soon finds himself involved with the French resistance, encountering slapstick gags and film parodies every time he turns around.

Funny parody for the right price

Saw this on cable, long ago. It's hilarious slapstick with Omar Sharif in a very unusual comedy role. Unwilling to pay high "NEW" prices, wanted this one to share with family.

  • Top Secret DVD

Why I bought it: I have never seen the entire movie but I bought it because it has an underwater barfight, which I thought was interesting. Underwater photography was a hobby of mine when I lived in LA. I was aware the movie was a comedy and I would enjoy it. What I like most about it: It had a lot of humor and made me laugh. The day after it was delivered to my house my Cable went out for the entire evening and I was happy to have a new movie to watch. What you dislike about it: Movie: A little too slapsticky. Technology: I like VHS format better than DVD. I find DVD menus cumbersome, and a VHS tape in good condition is nearly as good a picture quality.

  • Silly spoof movie

I have watched it at least 4 times, and I can still spot new little twists that I missed the previous time(s). Good entertainment from the Zuckers. Watch carefully for all the little sight gags and comments: car antenna, voice-over megaphone, little German, Swedish bookstore, underwater fight, and dozens more, and references to other movies (Blue Lagoon, others)

  • top secert

this is one of val kilmores first acting roles the comedy in this is close to the slapstick humor of airplane, and the story line is about as silly as it gets.... its good movie to see if you like the airplane type humor.... val shows some early signs of being a great actor....

  • A teriffic "unknown" movie.

I hardly know where to start. Val Kilmer plays a part where he's half Young James Bond, half Elvis Presley. Other stars play half spy, half Blue Lagoon. And one scene of the movie is in Swedish (don't be alarmed--you'll figure it out--it's part of the fun!!!) The songs are excellent, in particular "Skeet Surfing" at the beginning. (Picture people with shotguns on surfboards) I had no idea that Val Kilmer was such a talented singer. I don't want to spoil the movie for you, but one entire scene was filmed with the actors playing their parts "backwards"--so that the "end" of the scene was filmed before the "beginning". The actors had to walk backwards during the filming, so when that section of film was reversed and edited into the rest of the movie, they appear to be walking forward. ...
