Onkyo "up-scaling" DVD player
I've not tried out any of the new "up-scaling" DVD players so I have no comparative data. I bought this one (used) and had some problems at first with a drawer door that would not open or close. It seemed out of alignment. I did a little filing of the plastic door and opening and now it slides in and out easily. I've had no other problems with it and it does the job it's supposed to do, taking standard DVD's and up-scaling them to 1080i. Probably not as good as a "real" HD player, but who can afford to put out $250 for technology that may be made obsolete by the (possible) game winner "Blue-Ray" players? (Since Sony owns the movies that may be the way things go after all). Until that tussle is resolved this solution will suffice. Onkyo has a good reputation and so far so good. Certainly ... good quality for good many

Well I have to admit that I am just as particular about looks as performance and this covers both! Other than having the cool onkyo startup/on screen this dvd player will handle anything you throw at it. Home movies in any format like avi, all the mpegs, divx, and of course vob (dvds) files are played simply by...well pressing play! It even lets you know what type of file it is when you do press.
