This is a wonderful book for those times when you find a nice piece of pottery with a mysterous (to you) maker's mark. We have used it repeatedly since we bought it. Ms. Lehner also includes fascinating historical information about the manufacturers. The main drawbacks to this book are that it has not been updated (only goes through 1987) and that it is sometimes difficult to find a particular mark when the manufacturer used multiple ones. Nevertheless, this belongs on your shelf.
What i DISLIKED about this book was that if you were trying to IDENTIFY a piece, it wasn't very oprganized. THis book was arranged to where you need to know the name of the piece BEFORE you look it up.. Very close ranged, and hard to use. I sell on ebay..i need something simple, quick and accurate. This book has NO AMERICAN INDIAN pottery in it at all...that's one of the reasons i bought it..thought it might... you can, however, learn more about the pottery you already know the name to. if i had the chance to redo this sale..i would NOT of bought this book.
I spend a lot of time in line trying to recognize maker marks on things. This is going to be a great tool!!

I found this book to be very helpful in identifying pieces that I purchased (or that friends had!). It is a great tool to educate yourself on different companies and the marks that they used and under what time they used them. Very detailed penciling of the marks! If you collect pottery, porcelain that is manufactured in the US...you should use this reference book.
