Tail Heavy
l have built 3 Ravell Me262A-1a's 1:48. Overall, nice kits with one drawback: the tail is heavier than the nose because of the tricycle landing gear. Ravell provides a clear plastic rod that fits mid model to keep the tail end from falling. NOT GOOD lf l'm going to spend $25.00 and 17 hours putting a plane together, l don't want a plastic rod up its' butt. l countered this tail heaviness by placing 3 lead split shots in the nose with molding putty. The Tamiya 262 kits come with a metal nose shell that takes the nose wheel & flaps. This weight counter balances the heavy tail and makes for a perfect finish. Ravell---- take notice! Decent for the money
I gave this kit 4, out of 5 stars because of all of the putty, sanding & poorly fitted canopy. ( it's still not quite right) Detail is pretty good (slightly above average for a Revell kit) I would rate this one a hard level 2, on the 1-5 scale. I chose to build it w/ gear down; and because of that, I had to add some modeling clay in it during assembly to weigh down the nose. Sometimes these nose-wheel planes will set back on the tail after completion & then its too late. Fun , Low Cost Build
Okay, there are better, more detailed and let's face it, much more expensive ME262 kits out there in 1/48th scale, but for the money, this old Revell/Monogram kit from the 70s can't be beat! The detail is great, the fit is better than most and the optional markings are first rate. I highly recommend this kit.
