Vintage Radio's Most Frightening Horror Shows
Arch Oboler and Wyllis Cooper were unique in the stories they wrote and the radio adaptions of those stories. Their introductions to each story helps to soften the truly frightening aspect of each story, if you understand it The stories written were different from any other horror shows heard on radio at the time.. I feel sure Rod Serling was greatly influenced by these writings in his later very successful television program "The Twilight Zone". If there are any of the early stories from radio that could be truly disturbing and frightful to the listener, they would be found in the writings of Oboler and Wyllis. I would recommend them for individuals who are not squeamish by such subject matter. It would be interesting to know how these stories would rank when put up against the ... These vintage radio shows may not rank as high from a literary standpoint, but would certainly be appreciated for their unique and surreal nature whether one may truly understand them or not. And believe me the title of "Lights Out" is applicable for the subject matter contained in each of the stories. The shows in good audio condition are hard to find, but the 2 sets put out by Radio Spirits are fair to good and about the best you will find if in the standard CD speed and not the inferior MP3 versions.
