My son loves it. It’s easy for him to figure out. Cool cars to race and destroy

I loved Burnout 3 Takedown. I didn't like the gameplay of this - there's too little direction. I guess that's how the game was designed, but I'm just not a fan of it.

I'm a long time fan of the burnout series, and I've had my eye on this latest installment of the game for quite a while. Bottom line is, if you liked the other games games, you'll feel right at home with this one. It's a great looking game, and as you'd expect from a burnout game, there's still that amazing sense of speed no matter what car or truck you're driving. The races themselves will take you a little time to adjust to. This time around, the team at EA has placed you in an open city in which all of your races take place. There are no more transparent yellow boundaries to guide you thorough the race, but a gps-like compass with a nav point that you can choose to follow or not. Lots of room for shortcuts this way, but definitely a little disorienting at first. There are a ton of races from what I can tell (though I've only had the game a few days now), so it will keep you busy for a while. Perhaps the biggest disappointment for me was the exclusion of the crash mode that we knew and loved from the last two burnout games. There's a new mode called showtime where you wreck your car and then steer your bouncing wreck to try and damage the traffic around you and sustain a combo for as long as you can. But no more launching your car off of ridiculous ramps and sitting back to watch the ensuing chaos. This new mode just doesn't do it for me, and it got old pretty quickly. And they got rid of the crashbreaker, the one real contrubution burnout revenge made to the series. Overall, the game is fun, fundamentally still a burnout game, and it looks great on the ps3. If you get a chance you might download the demo from the PS store, but I really don't think the demo does the game justice, as its too limiting and you don't get a feel for the scope of paradise city from the three or so races they include and the road blocks everywhere that cut off the rest of the city in the demo.Read full review
Burnout Paradise sees what are arguably the biggest changes in the franchise's history, with nearly every single aspect of the game having seen some sort of shift in design. Some of it works really well, and some of it not so well, but what we wind up with still remains an intense, blazingly fast and perfectly controlling racer, one that you shouldn't miss. The biggest change introduced in Burnout Paradise is the move to an open world, the streets of Paradise City (cue Guns 'N' Roses title track). The entire city is open at the start of the game, with the idea being that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. Not all of the events are present at the start, mind you, and you'll have to put in a lot of time to unlock the game's roughly 75 cars, but you're never limited in the options before you. There are bits of good and bad to this. The good is that the city design is great, offering up plenty of varying spots for you to race in and tons of hidden areas to find. There is no shortage of tucked away passages, underground runs and all sorts of cool spots to hit. You'll find jumps littered everywhere, including small ramps with kickers on the side to send you into a barrel roll, which are great for the Stunt runs (which we'll come back to in a bit).Read full review
The Graphics are awesome and the game play is smooth. Lots of different cars to unlock and lots of ways to unlock them. Crashes look cool, but I wish they didn’t switch you to a different viewing mode and slow the whole game down when they happen. The open environment is very different from the old burnout games, but it can get you sucked in four hours. Getting new cars is cool and customizing them at the junk yard is fun. Upgrading your burnout license can get tedious because you have to drive around town searching for events to win and when you do upgrade all your completed events get cleared and reset so you can never really tell if you have done everything or if you are just doing the same things over and over again. There is definitely more to this game than just racing; the takedown, stunt, ShowTime, and explore modes certainly mix it up. Exploring the map can get old though because it’s a pretty big area. Some of the events are not very well explained so it can be frustrating trying to figure out how to make things happen or achieve certain goals. The load time when you start the game is long, but in game loads are fairly quick. Overall, great game and a lot of fun to play. Biggest downer is its only one(1)player off-line. No off-line multiplayer, so you can’t play at home with anybody else unless you are connected to the internet. If it had an offline multiplayer mode I would upgrade it to a rating of “excellent”Read full review
This game is fun. It's the best driving game so far for the PS3. The graphics are incredible and even though the cars are fictional, they look like real production cars. The engines, carbon fiber, body panels look very realistic. Gameplay is realistic and all cars can be damaged and repaired. I like the fact that you don't have to enter a garage and leave gameplay to fix the car. The game features drive thrus that can repair, paint, and supply boost fuel to the cars on the fly. Even during events. The city is very intricate and has tons of shortcuts. I don't like how you have to actually drive to the events on the map. Once you have most of them completed, the remaining ones take a long time to get to cause they're on the other side of the humongous city. In the game you achieve liscences by completing a number of races required. Once you achieve a liscense, all of the races that you won are cleared and you have to do them over again for the next liscense. it's annoying. The game doesn't have any plot or story. But, then again, none of the burnout series have had a plot. You just drive aroung. And it is very easy to get lost in the city because it is so intricate. Overall I thought this game is pretty good. The little annoying things like driving to events instead of selecting them from a menu or lack of plot are easily outwieghed by the detail and graphics that Critereon put into the game. It is eye candy and if you like realistic driving games, then you should enjoy this one.Read full review
Burnout Paradise is an installment in the Burnout series, and is one of the most unique games you will ever find. With a fully explorable, and destructible enviroment, this game has a great replay value. The gae has great gameplay with only a few flaws, and offers a good all-round driving experience. Burnout Paradise has no real cars, and that is not good. If they had real cars, it would have probably gotten a 5/5 from me, but the fact that you drive around a "Hunter" car instead of a real name-brand car just bugs me. However, there are much more important things to this game than the loss of cars. The game has a good driving feel, and the wide variety of game modes adds hours upon hours of gameplay to it. If you do buy the game, I highly recomend getting the all-in-one DLC pack from PSN, as it too adds a lot of game time. This game is a good buy at its original $59.99 price, but for its current $19.99 price, it is a must have for any driving game fan.Read full review
I bought this on release for the 360 and was rather disappointed in it. They removed my favorite part of the game which was the crash junctions. However the more I played it the more I came to enjoy it. I ended up beating it and traded it in a while ago. Then I heard about all the free downloadable content and decided to check it out. I bought the PS3 version to get my trophy score up a bit. It runs as smooth if not smoother then the 360 version. The streetbike additions are so fun to ride. I wish they would make a game with strictly streetbikes that handle like they do in Paradise. All in all it doesn't feel like a typical Burnout game but it is still fun and worth picking up without a doubt if you can get it shipped to you for under 25 bucks.
Graphics-89/Sound-86/Control-86/Blast Force-82/Overall-86 The graphics are this game's strong suit; really smooth in HD. Unfortunately, the kiddie theme and short clear time limit the positives. I can't see clearing ALL the trophies as there may not be enough opportunities on PSN to clear the online ones. Unless you want 100% completion, you can clear this thing in a day or two as long as you stay away from the crappy supercars towards the end (some of 'em really suck), and you should be able get mostly all the shut-downs a.w.a. all the billboard, yellow gate, and super jump trophies. Hey, I got 33% trophies after putting in not much more than 3 days. Overall, not a bad racer. It's really a good pick up and play game with tons of things going for it; trophies, sweet graphics, greatest hits status, etc. I'd say rent or buy. You can't lose either way.Read full review
Great game with lots of potential. This racing game is nothing like GT or NFS. The whole purpose is to drive faster and faster. You don't need to worry about precision in turns or any other simulation related stuff. Focus on the road and hit the gas. The graphics are pure awesome and the physical engine is very real. You never crush the car in the same way. Once you crushed your ride, you will see pieces flying all over the place and the body frame of your car will change accordingly. It is a very versatile game. Using the regular PS3 controller I Found it hard to control at high speed. So I ended up with a HKS controller. It is the best out there if you don't want to spend a lot on the fancy wheels.
