About this product

Product Information

This documentary takes fans of Roxy Music through the band's early years as a group. Releasing four albums in as little as two years, Roxy Music quickly broke onto the art rock scene when they formed in 1971, making a name for itself as a leader in the movement. Influenced by acts like the Velvet Underground and The Beatles, the band fused the experimental approach of art rock with the smoother production of British pop, also adding to their performances the fashion consciousness and outrageous costumes that would come to be associated with glam rock. While Roxy Music went on to produce creative music into the 80s, it was the band's early albums (with Brian Eno) that had the largest influence. INSIDE ROXY MUSIC combines rare archive footage of the band performing live with interviews and commentary by top music critics, musicians, and avid fans.

  • A good close look at the creation and development of Roxy Music.

If you are a fan of Roxy Music, you will want to see this video. (and, by the way, I think that the entire "Inside" series is well worth checking out) Concentrating on the early days, when Brian Eno was an important component in the magic that created the band, generous concert footage and thoughtful interviews with musicians and critics provide a solid understanding of what this great and influential band was all about. Since I was a big fan during the original heyday of Roxy Music’s career, I viewed this video with a wistful nostalgia. Younger fans may have trouble placing themselves in that bizarre, tumultuous, post-psychedelic, pre-punk time frame where modern experimental music was seeking the “next big thing” and nobody was really sure what that would be. In my opinion, it is ...
