This is a brilliant film, it is not suitable for young children at all though. Any kid aged 14+ should watch it, because the film teaches you to respect animals and how precious life itself is. There are some very violent scenes in it that would really disturb younger children though so please if you are a parent don't let your children watch this too early. I watched this first when I was about age 10 or 11 and it gave me nightmares for weeks and really made me cry, but watching this as an adult now who cares about animal rights I think this movie is very neccesary, so watch it and let your kids watch it as well when they are old enough. On the Optimum Home Edition DVD you will find the full uncut original version which I recommend. I can not recommend the cut version. Only one scene was cut because of violence and I think it should have remained in there because that is just how it is, animal cruelty is a violent topic, and only this way kids can learn how bad it is to be cruel to animals. And the rest that was cut was about 10 minutes of dialogues and other scenes which would really bug me, when so much is missing, they cut that cos they said it gave the film lengths, but I disagree here, I think it is perfect in the long original cut, so make sure you buy the Optimum Home Release and not any cheap cut version. What I did not like about the Optimum Home DVD was that there are no extras on it, only the original trailer. I would have liked some older interviews the director or speakers had given on it, I am sure there are some. Well but all in all I really want to recommend it. It's from the creator of "Watership Down", so that might help as a reference, because it is drawn in a similar way and also dark and gloomy as "Watership Down" was as well. If you like that style and you are against animal cruelty, you really should go ahead and buy it.Read full review
