I prefer the 24-105 over the 24-70 for event photography.
I have owned the 24-70 f2.8ii, but I actually prefer the 24-105. I rarely shot anything lower than f4, and I needed more length occasionally than 70mm. Plus this lens just feels better in the hands to use.

Very good quality utility lens with great focal range in one unit.
This camera goes wide to zoom in a breeze. It sits nicely on any Canon camera that will take an EF lens - easy on and easy off when a change is needed. It is a sharp lens and the L series lens is Canon's better quality build. The USM provides stability at lower shutter speeds giving the photographer greater range of options in low light.

My perfect 'Walkabout' lens.
I was looking for a lens to enable a better quality than the kit lenses but equally to give a better zoom range than the 18-55 lens, as it was inconvenient to regularly change to the 55-250 tele. This is my perfect walk-about lens and it is almost constantly in use. On my EOS 500D something is lost at the wide setting but that is easily overcome with two images stitched together and at the tele end the 1.6 cropping factor makes for a respectable zoom. Mainly used for landscape and architectural but have also got some pretty good results with wildflower photos. Worth the extra money for the quality of an L series lens. The lens is noticeably "chunkier" than the 18-55 kit lens and a lot heavier but a small price to pay for the quality and convenience.I was looking for a lens to enable a better quality than the kit lenses but equally to give a better zoom range than the 18-55 lens, as it was inconvenient to regularly change to the 55-250 tele. great focal range, build quality, and exceptional image quality
I purchased this lens to go with my 5D mk2, which is now converted to purely infrared. I usually go for prime lenses, so this lens for me is a general purpose workhorse that covers a good focal range while at the same time is tack sharp. Its not as heavy as the 24-70 and in landscape you'd scarce notice the difference as the quality of this lens is just about as good, and more forgiving. I can use the distortion it does have to effect in my images. And its tough.I purchased this lens to go with my 5D mk2, which is now converted to purely infrared. It has a great range 24 to 105mm and it is selling at a good price at present. I like not having to use a flash in lower light situations. I would buy the product again - this is actually the second time I have bought this lens. The first time was second hand for over $1100.
