Heinrich Mann ist bekannt fur ein ambivalentes Verhaltnis zu Frauen und zeichnet sehr charakteristisch verschiedene Frauenbilder, nutzt aber auch klischeehafte Judenbilder in seinem Roman. Die Frage, die sich hier stellt, ist: Bedient Heinrich Mann antisemitische Vorurteile oder stellt er ein allgemeines Rollenverstandnis der Frau gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts dar? Diese Arbeit besteht aus zwei Teilen. Zunachst wirft die Autorin einen Blick auf die Verknupfung zwischen Antisemitismus und Sexismus und geht kurz auf die Rolle der judischen Frau zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts ein. Im Abschnitt OEkonomie, Antisemitismus und der Status der Weiblichkeit wird der Status der Frau auf den finanziellen Wert innerhalb der gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen herausgearbeitet. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit wird zum literarischen Teil ubergegangen. Eingeleitet wird dieser Teil durch den Einfluss der Aufklarung auf die Literatur, um danach einen Blick auf Heinrich Mann und sein Frauenbild zu werfen. Im Anschluss daran betrachtet die Autorin anhand einiger Beispiele weiblicher Figuren des Romans die Rolle der Frau und wendet sich am Schluss einer Antwort auf die Kernfrage zu.
