The Fatman
It takes one to know one. William Conrad wanted to have the part of Matt Dillon on TV as he did in radio, but the producers felt he was too fat to ride a horse as needed. His radio voice lent itself well. His later success with Cannon and Jake make it clear he could handle lead roles on TV.

A+++ great series
Episodes mostly alternate between McCabe leading his staff in a criminal investigation while Jake gathers additional evidence, usually undercover, and often as an unsavory character that befriends or goes to work for the chief suspect. Almost always there's a showy scene or two for Conrad, often with McCabe confronting the bad guy in an interrogation room or in the witness box in court.
