SynopsisThis volume - investigating the work of a particular photographer, in this case, Ralph Eugene Meatyard - comprises a 4000-word essay by an expert in the field, 55 photographs presented chronologically, each with a commentary, and a biography of the featured photographer.
I wasn’t sure when I purchased this if it would be worth having alongside all the other REM books that I have. Though small in size and concise it it’s commentary, this is a quality series and contains numerous works I have not seen elsewhere. I thought that it might just contain the best known REM world, and hence not really show me anything new. Fortunately, this book has a lot of newly published photos and the commentary is first rate, with astute analysis of individual works and puts REM into the context of photographic and Modern Art practice as a whole.
