Synopsis
Cliff Stoll was an astronomer turned systems manager at Lawrence Berkeley Lab when a 75-cent accounting error alerted him to the presence of an unauthorized users on his system. The hacker's code name was Hunter-- a mystery invader hiding inside a twisting electronic labyrinth, breaking into U.S. computer systems and stealing sensitive military and security information. Stoll began a one-man hunt of his own, spying on the spy-- and plunging into an incredible international probe that finally gained the attention of top U.S. counter-intelligence agents. The Cuckoo's Egg is his wild and suspenseful true story-- a year of deception, broken codes, satellites, missile bases and the ultimate sting operation-- and how one ingenious American trapped a spy ring paid in cash and cocaine, and reporting to the KGB.

My new favorite place to look and purchase books. A+++ The first surprise was the care taken in packaging the book. It was mailed in a nice literature mailer and the book itself was wrapped to guarantee more protection. I was expecting the book to be shipped in just a padded envelope. The book was a great price and the description was spot on. Quick in delivery. Cannot wait to buy from you again. Thank you! From a future customer.

Bookseller was outstandingly helpful and communicative when USPS miss-routed the book, and it eventually arrived correctly, in great condition and superbly packed to protect this great edition, signed by author. Bookseller also refunded the shipping cost, even though the error was USPS's, not his.

  • Amazing!

Cliff is an awesome person! This story about internet espionage is fascinating. I’m not a techie and some if this was way over my head, but this geek took on the establishment and the bad guys were finally caught. He’s an astronomer but sure made his mark on computers and beaucracy of the government. In addition, he has a great sense of humor.

Reads exactly like a Clive Cussler thriller and it's all true. Riveting, compelling read. Couldn't put it down IS the truth.
