Resident Evil 5 Collectors Edition is not the best Collectors edition of a video game. By that I mean If you buy it new it includes a Chris Redfield toy that looks nothing like him, a neclace of Africa, a B.S.A.A. patch, and the game in a pretty cool tin case that includes a bonus DVD. Now the game is the same version as the standard edition. And the DVD is alright it has a making of and has the cast doing motion capture and a little retrospective on the series thus far. I only reccomend this version if you are a diehard R.E fan otherwise just get the standard edition. With that said RE5 is an extremely fun game. It starts out with Chris Redfield a number of years after the events of the first game. struggling to deal with the death of his longtime partner. On his way to Africa to meet up with his new partner Sheva. They have intel of a new B.O.W. [BIO ORGANIC WEAPON] Is being created and sold on the Black market. The locals much like in RE4 will be hostile because of the virious they have become infected with. Graphicly this game has very stunning visuals due to the fact the game takes place during the day most of the time. You can see very clearly wich is usually great but I thought it took away from the sence of fear and dread I get in a RE game But A welcome change to the formula but it lost the Horror settimg almost entirely for more of an action orientated game. And great voice acting just added to the nearly flawless experience. The invintory system and aim mechanics have vastly improved over RE4. This game took one of the biggest risks in the series to abandon the nightime atmosphere and it paid off very well. However Sheva's A.I is a little dumb so it is far better to play with a buddy.Read full review
SHORT VERSION - Only buy this game if you have a friend to play it with or you really want the CE contents, which are quite good. Full review below. First I'll discuss the contents of the CE. Here's what you get: - Tricell messenger bag - a little small but still cool - Chris Redfield action figure - VERY small but looks good on a desk or something - RE5 Laser Cel - cool looking high res image. Don't know how "limited" it is - Kijuju necklace - A necklace shaped like Africa - BSAA patch - cool if you have something to put patches on - Steelbook case - Nice looking case, but the disc is sort of hard to take out - Bonus DVD - your standard bonus items Overall, it's a pretty nice collector's edition, with some good stuff for your desk or shelf. Next, the gameplay. Man, is it bad on solo. If you don't have someone to play this game with, I don't recommend picking it up at all. The reason is that the controls are so bad you need a second player otherwise you're doomed. You can't run and do anything else at the same time - you have to stop to shoot, reload, and even melee. In a game where you're frantically trying to kill zombies and other creatures, it's a bit of an annoyance. I don't have any experience with other Resident Evil games, but this one has a pretty interesting plot with action and nice looking cutscenes throughout. It also seems to tie up some plot elements from other games in the series. Lastly, there are tons of collectible treasures and BSAA emblems throughout the levels and you'll be hard pressed to find them all, even with a guide.Read full review
Graphics: Excellent 9.0/10 Sound: Excellent 9.0/10 Gameplay: Very Good 7.5/10 Replay: Great 8.5/10 Overall: Great 8.5/10 Note to the reader: I have been playing the Resident Evil Series since it’s introduction on the Playstation One. Graphics: Excellent 9.0/10 The graphics are excellent, the cut-scenes and in-game graphics are seamless, and this is as good as Capcom has done for this series. The shadows, lighting effects, and motions are great, and really immerse you into the game. The zombies, the backgrounds, and environments are detailed, rich, and engrossing. Sound: Average – 9.0/10 The thing that Capcom has always nailed in this series is the sound, and this game is no exception. The sounds of the groans, the heightening tension of the music when an attack is coming, and the sounds of the weapons are dead on. The ambiance is set in the different areas by the increasing tones of heightening sense of importance through the use of music in this game. Some may say that the voice work is poor, but it goes right along with the “cheesy” style that this series has always had, and the delivery is spot on for those that have been with the series for some time. Gameplay: Very Good – 7.5/10 Let me start by saying that when playing this game with a friend in the co-op mode, there is nothing better. Having to people that can communicate and work together makes this game perfect. However, that being said, when this game is played in offline mode, it is not the best experience. The computer ally A.I. will shoot you in the back, use herbs unnecessarily, and not help in the most critical times of the game. Replay Value – Great 8.5/10 Once the game is over, you will most likely be wanting more. Luckily, there are many unlockables, difficulty levels, and time runs to keep you busy for some time. To upgrade every weapon alone (without glitching) would take 6-8 playthroughs! The mercenaries mode, further co-op adventures, and just general playing will keep you coming back for more. The score would have been greater if Capcom didn’t already include multiplayer on the disk, and charge $5 to download the unlock patch to play multiplayer. This is a trend I do not wish to se continue. Overall – Great 8.5/10 This is a great game, do not get me wrong, but it is not perfect. This game is a detour off the survival horror that the series has created, and perfected, and has gone down the pure action path. This is not a bad thing, but the controls don’t lend themselves to that type of gameplay. With less suspense, more gripping events because of the sheer amount of enemies, and over the top ammo and drive of the game, it is a mixture of Resident Evil 4, Gears of War, and the Matrix. Where this game does many things right, it is flawed and glitch in just as many areas. If this were any other title, it would not have been as scrutinized as closely as it was in this title. Resident Evil 4 was, and still is, on my top 5 games of all time. This game will not place on that list, but I must recommend it just for the sheer fun, playability, and co-op opportunities that are available. This is a must play.Read full review
Resident evil has always been a zombie shooter series. All the way back to the old playstation titles, Resident Evil has always been a solid game. However with the introduction of Resident Evil 4 and now 5, they have gone away from zombies to a less "horror" title to more of a generic "bad guy" shooter. No longer do you kill hordes of relentless zombies and their mutated counterparts, but now you fight against regular people, who have gone crazy, to sum it up. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't ruin the game, but it does leave something more to be desired. The third person over the shoulder shooting style is done very well, however there are some parts where the character image takes up too much of the screen, leaving it damn near impossible to see what you're shooting at, let alone where you're going. The co-op play is excellent, allowing for your typically useless AI companion to become another skilled person in your team.Read full review
I was lucky to have a friend on holiday when this game came out in Jaoan so i was able to get hold of it a week before its UK release. There first thing you'll notice is that the graphics are very highly detailed not just characters but enemies as well theres also a large array of guns avilable as well. The story takes place in Africa in a fictional African Village at least thats where you start, you take controll of resident 1 and CV character Chris Redfield and through the cam you'll be assited by his new partner Sheva Almor intrestignly you can also play on line and off line co op witch gives the game a better spin. I don't want to give to mutch away but a two old faces turb up you can probably already guess who from the numberous trailiers but there are some amazing cut scenes and expert motion capture scenes. Ozwell E Spencer finally shows up as well after almost eleven years off being in the shadows. The enemies in this game are amzing at first they may seem just like the gandos from RE 4 but you'll see there very different the boss battles and sub bosses are great and you'll soon be thrust into one right from the start of the game. Also keep your eye out for the lickers from RE 2 because they make an apperance as well. The story moves along smoothly and at good pace you'll spen the first half of game pursuing Ricardo Irving a Bio weapons terriost working for TRi Cell and the later half of the game trying to stop Albert Wesker from unl;ease the Ourobors Virus it all finishes of with a final battle with wesker at the top of a volcano. After completing the game you'll unlock alternate costumes and the mercanires mini game witch evry body knows from RE 4 is great fun and highly addictive. Althoug htheres no denying this game is great and very challenging it isn't really scary theres nothing really in the game that will make you jump although this might not be the same for everyone. Otheralll and fast paced action shooter witch ties up the story nicely. Gameplay 10 - Great shoot ups and quite intense boss battle a superb some people wont like the invertory system or the real time rloading but it makes it lot more realistic Graphics 10 - Characters, Enemies and enviroments all look great Music/Sound 10 - Gun fire and exlposions sound brillant not sure baout the music all the way through but the ending music and most of the other parts sound great Longetivity 9 - While the mecnaries is great fun and will keep you playing it could have done with more unlockables although the new collecting side of things to unlock figures is a nice touch as well it really could have done with another new mode like RE 4's sperate ways. 39/40 - Great fun and brillant end to a story arc could have done with a couple more unlockables but a great game otherall I'D pre - order now if i where you. If you can get hold of the collectors edition i'd only buy it if you were a serious fan / collector if you just want to play the game then there really is no need to buy it. It dose come with some great collectors pieces including a TRicell bag, Chris redfield action figure and art work booklet. It is expensive though so i wouldn't go out of your way to purchase it if its just game you wnat go for a cheaper option but if you do want and get can hold of it its worth the money.Read full review
