Elephant Talk
King Crimson are a Marmite band.....You either love them or hate them! And this is one of their finest pieces of work in my opinion. With 7 classic Crimson tracks and a very tight line up comprising of Fripp, Belew, Levin and of course Bill Bruford behind the drums. It kicks of with Elephant Talk a mammoth track with catchy drum rythm and the usual babble and burble of Fripp's lyrics..it's Elephant Talk!! Then into the frantic heady riff that is Frame by Frame,I am listening to it now and getting gooosebumps all over my body. A wonderful combination of guitar and vocals by Adrian Belew.....The pace slows completely with Matte Kudasai and the lovely lilting sounds of seagulls overhead, that's what makes King Crimson so great the constant change of beat and speed either during tracks or ... Once again the pace picks up again with Indiscipline and the sound of Tony Levin's stick guitar and Bruford's brilliant drumming. The visions of seeing them perform this live are still with me, and the I noticed that there is a copy of the ticket for the concert in Victoria in 1981 in the CD booklet. Mine is in safe keeping along with all my other gig tickets from the last 35 years. Thela Hun Ginjeet has another memorable riff and rythm and is a difficult song to get out of your head once in there (you have been warned) The sheltering sky starts with bongos and is a bit like Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells with other instruments going along the way, until the cacophny of noise is reaches it's crescendo and haunting melodies.....truly wonderfull. Finally Discipline the title track........For thos of you that run a mile when you hear the words King Crimson take a risk ..try it just once, you never know you might be hooked!
