If you are into an old school fully enclosed headphone it's difficult to beat this pair. This is a sturdy time tested design has been around since the 1970s. It produces a smooth and accurate sound while eliminating a great deal of outside noise distractions. These do not feel like a modern light headphone they are a bit heavier due to the solid construction and oldschool design. This aspect is a big part of their charm. The 250 ohm rating does require you to turn the output up quite a bit more than you would on other headphones. This aspect does not detract from the good sound quality it just means you need to use more energy to drive the headphone. Play back at low volume may seem a bit lacking, however at mid and high volume you receive a rich full sound. Sturdy construction with a good quality sound production and a lifetime warranty, it's hard to beat this pair of headphones.Read full review

These were my first 'real' headphones from 1974-1979. Even with moderately-priced Japanese electronics of the era, they sounded amazing in my late-teen years. I sold them in 1979 for AKG K240 Sextetts. I haven't heard them since then until I decided to hear my old reference in early 2016. I have every reason to believe the Pro4AA I bought from eBay are in good shape sonically and all-around, and built sometime in the '70s. They have the vice grip clamp on my head and ears and are very heavy by today's standards, which I expected. I didn't expect the sound was so, uh, colored, nor do I remember it being so much so. A huge upper-bass emphasis ~300Hz, still-strong bass below there, that render mids and treble way into the background. And this is using equipment that is far more open and capable than my '70s electronics. Eventually I plugged them into a good receiver with tone controls: it actually requires only minor adjustment to cut bass and boost treble to get a more-even tonal balance. Though that's imperfect vs proper equalization, it does show the high frequencies and vocals are actually fairly well-rendered even compared to modern $100 MSRP closed-back headphones. And it remains a remarkably well-built robust piece throughout, as their materials, condition, adjustability and even sound prove out. Compared to modern reference-level headphones there's no comparison sonically. But in 45 years you'd expect headphone technology to move forward substantially, especially with the relatively recent mainstream popularity of headphones. But for $25 they're well worth keeping as a not-awful-sounding piece of high-end history. Comparing them to brand-new current-production $100 Koss Pro4AA from the factory, er, well, that's a different review...Read full review

This will be a different review for I didn't buy the headphones for the purpose they are intended and that's listening to music while sitting. Before I go to sleep I do a pre-sleep session so that when I do hit the sack I won't lay there thinking. Doing a pre-sleep session prepares me to start snoozing the minute I lay down for serious and then I sleep for approximately 7-8 hours of solid sleep. However, the reason I bought these headphones is because I am a titanium person and I presently own 2 pairs of the rare, vintage ('90s) Sterling Te-400 (originally $139) which I swear are the best-sounding headphones I have ever heard since the 1960s and they are light on the head but not loose enough to fall off when I use them flat on my back. But the cables started shorting near the volume controls and I kept repairing them but the cables got shorter so I decided to replace them and the KOSS sounded like a good replacement and the higher ohmage (260 versus the Sterling's 60) made me think that the sound would be superior although it was only an assumption since I'm not electronically-savvy. High-end, expensive headphones usually feature an ohmage of between 260 and 300. When I received the KOSS the first thing that hit me was the weight due to superb craftsmanship and materials. Also, these headphones surround your ears while my Sterlings rest on the ear and I prefer that style. Unfortunately, the weight worked against me when I laid down and the headphones slipped off my head. Immediately I knew I wasn't keeping them. Then I played music and while the reproduction was excellent thanks to the titanium element instead of mylar or whatever. But, as a headphone forum member mentioned, they are a bit laid back while my Sterlings bring the sound to your ears, have deeper, natural-sounding bass (not bloated), and require less volume than the KOSS. To cut to the chase, these headphones are not for my listening purpose as explained above. Also, I think that my Sterlings produce true natural sound as if you were in the recording studio listening to the actual instruments. And their light weight make the headphones disappear. With the KOSS you always know you're wearing big, heavy headphones.Read full review

I needed a good set of isolation headphones to use when I'm practicing on my drum set to cds. Works great. Great sound and isolation. I have used Koss phones in the past, never disappointed in the quality or the sound!

I bought these headphones to replace a pair that I sold to a friend years ago. Koss is a very good brand and the sound quality is just great.

First bought a pair of these back in the 70s & they lasted over 30 years. Very durable, outstanding sound. They are a bit heavy & take some getting used to for those who've never owned a pair. In the 15 years since my original pair developed a short in one of the cup wires I've gone thru 4 sets of headphones from 4 different manufacturers and spent way more money for far less quality. Thank goodness these are back on the market again. Try 'em, you'll love 'em.

Wonderful sound - replaced stiff ear pads with new set from Koss for only $5. Very comfortable now! A little heavy but not enough to matter that much also very good at sealing off outside noise especially with new ear pads. A very well made quality headphone!

I remember having a set of these when they first came out, The sound is still super but if you are thinking these are some light weight headphone, well forget it they are heavy but they are built to last for the VERY long haul. Koss has always been know for the great headphones from home use to using them in studio. This is no fashion statement but it is a statement in quality and great sound!!!! Brazil Radio

The Koss Pro4AA are by far one of the Best Headphones ever made and Produced in this Country. I have used a lot of Headphones over the years. These are by far are the Best. There bass response and Clarity are not matched by any Headphones out there at their price point or the high end of the spectrum. I won't mention all the name brands I have played with, but you can use your imagination here. There are a few headphones that have pretty good sound. Even the Pro4AAA Headphones made by Koss [the Big Brother] are not quite as good, but that is my opinion. As to how heavy they are, they are still comfortable to wear. I enjoy there deep response and clarity of sound. I do not care for any of the new headphones that are out now. they do not have the impact or clarity of these gems. And No matter what you spend to get the sound of these, it seems you compromise on something with the sound that these deliver fully. So there you have it. These Headphones really deliver the Sound without Compromising on it. Try them out you will be surprised since the design has stayed unchanged for a few decades. Why mess up perfection. Try these out you will not be disappointed these have been favorites of disc jockeys and Radio stations for Years.Read full review
