The Tung-Sol 5881 is an under-rated tube. Perhaps because it is considered either an industrial or a milspec tube, it is used in applications where it is over-stressed and performs poorly. I have found it to sound compressed and with limited frequency when overtaxed, but fine when operating within its specified parameters. If, however, you use it in lower-powered applications where a 6L6, 6L6G, 6L6GA, or 6L6GB is called for, you'll do fine. Never use it where 6L6GCs are call for or in Class A amps.

Extremely good sounding tubes. Developed in the laboratory for the military at the Tung Sol plant in New Jersey. Reissue's unfortunately do not even come close, and like most new production tubes they are closer to a modern 6l6gc. NOS are getting hard to find. Better find a current draw matched pair while you can. The NOS 5881 is one of the vintage output tube Titans. They just cant make them like they used to.

Tung-Sol Reissue Vacuum Tubes are great reproductions by the Reflektor tube factiory inRussia.. I would recommend using these in any tube amp that was designed for the "6" family of tubes (6L6, KT66, 5881, or even the 6V6).

If you've got an old Fender amp that calls for 5881 power tubes these old Tung Sols are the best sounding. It's what Fender used when they manufactured the amps.....
