About this product

Product Information

The science-fiction thriller MINORITY REPORT, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, is based on a short story by renowned writer Philip K. Dick. In the year 2054, in Washington, D.C., murder has been eliminated thanks to Precrime, a program that uses the visions of three psychics, called Precogs (an abbreviation for precognitive thinkers), to arrest and imprison would-be murderers before they have a chance to kill. Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, a Precrime enforcer who believes in the system for his own personal reasons--years back his young son was abducted, and he has dealt with the loss by becoming a high-strung Precrime officer. The director of Precrime (Max von Sydow) is eager to take the program national, and feels threatened by an ambitious federal agent (Colin Farrell) who is bent on finding a flaw in the system. When Anderton finds himself accused of the future murder of a man he's never met, his faith in Precrime is instantly shaken. He goes on the run, and is trailed by the relentless Precrime police. In the tradition of BLADE RUNNER (also based on a Dick story), MINORITY REPORT is a dark, brooding vision of the future. Spielberg expertly mixes thrilling chase and suspense sequences (the best of which involves Anderton being pursued by eye-scanning mechanical spiders) and stunning special effects with a challenging look at society's willingness to sacrifice privacy and the notion of free will for convenience and security. MINORITY REPORT is a thought-provoking and exciting film that ranks with Spielberg's best.

Very different, very creative, a little dark!

Spielberg hired "futurists" to help him develop what the future would be like. I am guessing the setting was 50 years in the future. The feel of the movie was a little dark and unsettling and some scenes were difficult to watch (like his surgery and the sandwich after). However, the movie is very creative, the story is a very good tale and the characters are fully developed. The twists in the plot are well concealed and you have to pay attention to what is going on. I do like movies that make you pay attention. Overall a very good flick.

  • Top critical review

Tom Cruz not at his best

Tom Cruz makes incredible movies. Try watching Live, Die, Repeat. Sadly, Minority Report is far from his best. It is very choppy. Everyone seems to be moving as fast as they can. This leads to them not displaying any character.

  • *VERY GOOD MOVIE!! Well Worth Buying!!! 2 Thumbs Up!!!*

One very good movie. The storyline is in the futuristic aspect of our US Govt developing a system to detect crime before it happens, and preventing it. Realistically, this could be a good thing, or a bad thing. It is based on the mindset of one thinking of commiting a crime, and arresting the premeditated criminal. BUT, because one instantaneously pictures a crime, or pictures commiting a crime, will they do it? Watch the movie and find out! The Govt claims that their "flawlessly" developed Pre-Crime system using Pre-Cogs will prevent crime every time. Its a great movie, makes you think of what the future may be like, and is directed by the twisted mind of Steven Spielberg. Good action, Great Performances , and a very intelligent concept makes this movie one you wont want to miss!!! ...

  • pre-crime criminals?

This movie is an excellent example of what can happen when a good idea is taken to the extreme and how criminals will always find a way to circumvent "new" law enforcement equipment. Cruise plays the head of the Precrime unit in Washington, D.C.; catching the criminal before he/she actually commits murder. He has thoroughly bought into the Precrime concept; therefore, he is GOOD at his job. Arresting someone before they can kill someone is a great thing. Unless, of course, you find yourself "accused" of a murder and you have never met the intended "victim" and have never been in the place where the "crime" is to happen. Cruise's character finds himself in that position; but, being the chief allows you to know the "facts of the crime" before anyone else and that gives him 36 hours to ...

  • A modern masterpiece - Underappreciated classic

Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise teamed up for the first time on Minority Report, and the result was a modern day classic and one of the best sci-fi films of the 21st century. A great storyline coupled with tremendous action and effects, and then offset with an outstanding performance by Cruise all add up to a tremendous movie. This is not old-school Steven Spielberg. This film is dark, violent, and has a deep, twisting plot with an amazing ending which keeps the viewer thinking long after watching it. It's a must watch, and a movie which gets better on repeated viewings. Meanwhile, the special features on the second disc are very engrossing, as usual with Spielberg's films. Any time you get a chance to look behind the curtain at the most influential director of the last 40 years then ...
