Synopsis
Monkey depicts the adventures of Prince Tripitaka, a young Buddhist priest on a dangerous pilgrimage to India to retrieve sacred scriptures accompanied by his three unruly disciples- the greedy pig creature Pipsy, the river monster Sandy - and Monkey. Hatched from a stone egg and given the secrets of heaven and earth, the irrepressible trickster Monkey can ride on the clouds, become invisible and transform into other shapes - skills that prove very useful when the four travellers come up against the dragons, bandits, demons and evil wizards that threaten to prevent them in their quest. Wu Ch'ang-an wrote Monkey in the mid-sixteenth century, adding his own distinctive style to an ancient Chinese legend, and in so doing created a dazzling combination of nonsense with profundity, slapstick comedy with spiritual wisdom., Wu Ch'ang-en wrote Monkey in the middle of the 16th century, adding to an ancient chinese legend his own touches of delicacy and humour. The result is a jumble of the absurd and the profound, of religion and history, of anti-bureaucratic satire and pure poetry. While the story te lls of Tripitaka's journey to India and what happens on the way, its true theme is man's pilgrimage through life, with Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy symbolizing the diverse elements of human nature.

- i***e (161)- Feedback left by buyer.More than a year agoVerified purchaseBook was listed as Very Good condition. The book I received was not in very good condition, it should’ve been listed as Acceptable. Corners were worn, the cover was dog-eared and there were small tears at the edges, and the spine had creases. The book is about ready to fall apart. Was falsely advertised.

- n***d (50)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseExcellent seller. Package was delayed ( by bad weather) and then misplaced at PO( placed in wrong box #) but I contacted the seller and they responded quickly and I got my item today. This seller went the extra mile and I would highly recommend them and will shop here again. I also want to say the price for this complete hard to find item was way below most of the other listings. Condition was good as stated, and although I've only watched the first disc it's quality is good. - 6***t (480)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchasePurchasing form this company can at times be frustrating due to items never arriving, very low shipping time and the inability to track the items. But I gave them another chance and purchased many maps and books over the past few months and have received all of them. Last year, it was hit and miss. All items were in the condition as described. Packaging is minimal. The only downside is extremely slow shipping. I rate them a C+. Nothing to gloat about but eventually you will get what you wanted.
