For a surprisingly small package the VOX Amplug 2 series guitar headphone amps provide big sound. The definition is excellent, whether playing in a clean mode or distorted you get the feeling you are playing through a full size guitar amp. You do need decent earbuds or headphones but most people have these already for use with their smartphone. The effects are better than expected, the Reverb or Chorus is once again excellent. The Volume, Gain control and effects adjustments let you customize the sound you prefer. Tapping the On/Off button changes settings of effects and the dials allow other fine tuning. I liked this VOX Amplug 2 Blues model so much I bought the Classic Rock one as well. Some might say they should pack all of the various models into one, I'm fine buying a few different ones, the sound is worth it. These things are small as shown in the photo of the Blues model next to a standard guitar pick. The guitar input rotates in click-stop fashion, it will work on a Strat. I bought a neoprene wireless guitar strap case to hold the VOX Amplug 2 after connecting a right angle one foot guitar cord so that I can always get the Amplug 2 out of the way when sitting in a chair or on a couch. This thing is great for travel and use in hotel rooms, no one will know how much fun you are having because your room will be quiet.Read full review

Overall I got the Blues one as it clearly has a great combo of clean and OD. Efx are good but no tweaking. Form is cool but Be careful it’s plastic! The Blues one- many people note that these allow one to not disturb others. However there are many other headphone options with more possibilities (iOS interface, amps from 1 watts up, and multi effects) so hard to justify for me. The advantage is size and u just plug in. But this as u see from other reviews is it’s disadvantage. Any wrong move or placing on floor with GTR and it may break. So adding a coupler to use a cable may defeat the purpose. Having said that I always ignored hphone amps as they have no reverb and I need reverb or echo! So- if reverb is not an issue you should consider some inexpensive plugs! In researching the new series “classic rock” saves a few bucks but I couldn’t get a clear answer as to whether it has clean options. I think it does. In reviews and demos the Blues one had clean, crunch and OD mode. You can raise the gain in each mode. I did not choose The Clean plug as I was not sure how much gain it had, the AC 30 has trem on two modes (useless to me) LEAD seemed to have no clean mode and Metal is Metal. The sound on this is good and to save battery I even turn off efx sometimes. The clean is beautiful and adding gain is like tube warmer. The crunch mode is a great combo of clean and crunch. The OD is smooth gain not distortion. Switching amongst the efx (3 variants for each efx) is a bit tricky no control over efx mix or delay time but they sound good. You can send a 3.5 cable out to a speaker, PA or amp and have immediate control over clean to gain options. The device is built well but the laws of leverage suggest it may be too easy to break. I just got it and played it but it’s not a cable you can set down or yank! For me, I have too many gadgets and many headphones options. So I am keeping it for now as It’s a hoot to play no amp, cables or devices. Just be careful I guess. In short, the sound is very good. The Gain possibilities are several and better than some pedals. The efx are a great option. Again they take a little more battery drain and have some limits. I think the BLUES plug is a great combo of clean and OD with a responsive Tone control. POSSIBLE USES: Airport, hotel, The beach, a jam (bring the 3.5 cable) where there is a lousy amp or PA!, ideas at any time I know it turns off after 30 minutes but I am assuming left in the guitar it will drain batteries. I’m not sure If you like this form and like rock blues funk fusion this is great. If you need headphone options there may be better devices but it’s still very useful and sounds great!Read full review

Very clear authentic sounds. Don't turn it up too loud. It's the real thing in a tiny box. Glad I bought it and it keeps you from bothering others. Very easy to use with headphones. You don't need a full size practice amp. You can use it anywhere. Anywhere!

Great sound and so easy to use. Very convenient. Several different sound pallets to choose from. Such a big sound from such a small device. Highly recommended. Best practice amp I've seen. For $40 you can't go wrong.

Excellent little practice Amp. Powerful for its size and good sound. Makes a good mobile Amp to practice with. Makes practicing better for someone starting out or anyone experienced who wants to play without disturbing anyone.
