Very nostalgic
I loved the programmes about Hannah back in the 70s and 80s. Such a sweet uncomplaining soul and with such a hard life. When she died recently at the age of 91 I just wanted to watch them again so bought the DVDs. The first one didn't really focus on Hannah as much as I remembered but was still so interesting. The second had me in tears as Hannah finally admitted that trying to run a hill farm single handed in the depths of a Yorkshire winter was too much for her. I haven't yet watched the third DVD where the Yorkshire tv took her travelling so I still have that to look forward to.I loved the programmes about Hannah back in the 70s and 80s. This is a wonderful DVD which I will never tire of watching. This is about the hardships that Hanna Hauxwell endured on her farm where she had no electricity or running water and only herself to rely on for her survival. She tended the animals and endured harsh conditions without a complaint, she saw it as life and just got on with it. Then due to ill health she regretfully has to sell up and buys a cottage and then goes travelling. She is a very honest hard working decent women with a good moral code -totally true to herself. This is fascinating viewing of a very unique individual and her way of life who commands your respect and is very endearing.This is a wonderful DVD which I will never tire of watching. A recent TV programme triggered my memory of watching this series when it was first on TV, and how very enjoyable it was, so true to the books, which are superb. I'd dug them out and read them again, so I was very pleased to find the whole series on DVD and such good value as well. Already watched it twice! Hannah mesmerises you with her soft voice and calm approach and takes you back to a bygone era. I would recommend it to anyone. Wonderful family viewing. Hannah sets very good examples in all aspects of her life, not least her attitude of the half full, rather than the half empty glass. Although her way of life was shockingly deprived to many people, it was indeed a fairly common way of life in very rural upland communities, even into the 70's, so not as deprived perhaps, as the ... Poignant stories
I already have the videos of this amazing ladies' life but wanted the DVDs. She was an inspiration, sadly now passed away. Fascinating viewing, everyone should watch them.
