It arrived with some of that lovely burnt wood smell you'd expect from a laser cut and carved piece. The acrilic looks incredible when the light catches it and provides a strong back for the more intricate designs in the wood. They weren't kidding about the strong magnets. I had to pull harder than expected to open the box the first time, but once you know what to expect, it's no problem. As with all of our deck boxes, it's important to hold the base on a flat surface (or at least hold steady from the bottom) and pull the top firmly, STRAIGHT UP. Wiggling is bad! :)
