The Fruitful Lessons of Pain
Dutch priest and prolific writer, Henri Nouwen, writes simply, but eloquently from his heart. The Inner Voice of Love is yet an other example of his gifted writing, even though these diary entries were never intended for publication. Others he trusted with his private journaling soon convinced him of the healing potential of his words. I found The Inner Voice a great aid to prayer. Nouwen offers simple reflective questions regarding the mystery of pain. He invites his reader to see Christ in his/her own life, especially in the sorrows. He writes, "The deeper truth [of pain] is that the situation which brought about your pain was simply the form in which you came in touch with the human condition of suffering.
