The books in this set are excellent. Each lesson is through; it explains the steps clearly that the student needs to take to master the material presented. Additional practice material is offered if more review is needed. The tests/quizzes are spaced just far enough apart and cover the material well...the teacher's edition is excellent, and gives complete/worked out answers, so that a parent can readily show their child where/why their problem was incorrect. Saxon Math books are (in my humble opinion), the best math books available. I do like the hard cover additions better...(because they hold up better over the course of multiple children's usage), but with care, even the soft cover books will work. Saxon math books aren't "colorful", so generally I use Abeka math for grades K-5 (the children seem to perceive it as "fun" when it's colorful), but at 6th grade I've always switched over to Saxon because as we all know, math builds upon itself and Saxon is the most comprehensive. Here in our state of PA (you'd have to check with the evaluator in your area), once a child reaches the high school level, evaluators will also give 1/4 credit, in addition to the full credit for Algebra 1/2 and above, for "geometry" which is intertwined with Algebra 1/2, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, etc. (thus no need to take a whole seperate course of geometry). Saxon also has "D.I.V.E" CD/ROMs for every math class...a teacher teaches each lesson on a "chalk board" right on your computer! These retail for about $50, but are worth the money in the higher level mathematics classes (again in my humble opinion) unless you are great in math and can help your student. Just make sure that the CD/ROM that you purchase new or used, matches the edition textbook that you have purchased. All in all, I think Saxon math is one of the best mathematics programs available.Read full review
WHERE WAS THIS BOOK WHEN I WAS LEARNING MATH???????? I love this book, if you can't tell. My son is good in math when he wants to be, but he catches on so quickly to some things that he doesn't think he needs to take the time to focus on the lessons. I'm not so sure that made sense. He doesn't like math even though he's good at it. Saxon math has changed that. I love the fact that it reviews constantly. It doesn't start out on 5th grade math assuming your child is ready to start it. It reviews what they should know up to this point, which is wonderful because coming from a public school that "taught the test" he had not really touched math since 2nd grade. He has learned why problems are solved the way they are, which helps him because if he understands the reason then he can solve the problem much easier. As a matter of fact, he was having problems with multiplication and after 13 lessons we are starting on multiplication and I don't even think he's realized it because of the way they teach it. He hasn't complained once about doing his math and it used to take hours and pain like pulling eye teeth. I will stay with Saxon for the rest of his school years.Read full review
I know exactly what to expect from Saxon Math books. Everyday, we have a clear precise lesson followed up by 25 to 30 problems. Each day builds on the day before. By the end of the year, you can be confident that your child has a firm grasp on mathmatical concepts. My daughters have used Saxon books for two years. Once you learn the Saxon system, you can quickly get through the lessons and do it the way it works best for you and your child. I like the Cd-rom teacher that goes along with the book. My daughter can work indepently while I am teaching her younger siblings. Downside is it can be time consuming at first. I have learned to do just the basics such as the teacher lesson then the practice problems. Sometimes this can take up to two hours. This will vary with the age and ability of each child. My 2nd grader can get through a lesson in 30 minutes or so. Overall, I am very happy with Saxon Math. I plan to use Saxon each year.Read full review
I have homeschooled for a lot of years and I love using Saxon math. It practices previous concepts continually so it isn't a learn and forget experience.

I purchased this with the expectation of the front cover being a bit dented/creased. It came wrapped in a new plastic and the book is in excellent condition. Very happy with price and quality.
