Firepower 2000 is a top down shoot 'em up for the Super Nintendo. It is a one or two player in which you play as a Jeep or Helicopter. This game has six stages in total and your objective is to shoot oncoming foes such as planes, tanks, and various ships. At the end of each stage, you will encounter a boss in which you must defeat. In each stage, you can get power-ups from large crates in which contains shooting weapons such as bullets, plasma shots, flame shots, laser beams, and even Ionic shots. Also, the boxes contain sub weapons such as Missiles (obtained by an X icon), homing missiles (obtained by an H icon), and my personal favorite, the flame sphere (obtained by an S icon). The special weapons can be used by pressing the X button. The more of a particular shooting weapon you have, the stronger its shot. However, if you lose a life your shooting weapons get weaker, so beware because this game can get difficult. Another item that is very helpful is the barrier. The barrier can be obtained by shooting a flashing orb, once the orb is destroyed the barrier will come out and the player can grab it. However, the barrier can be shot at and will create a huge explosion that will destroy all enemies on screen (this can be done also if you already have a barrier on you and collect another one.) You can also get extra lives when you score 50,000, 200,000 and every 200,000 points. This can be achieved easily if you collect stars along the way in each level. Stars can be obtained by particular enemies being beaten. At the end of each stage, you will be tallied of how many stars you have multipled by 1,000-5,000 (depending on what stage you're on.) I like playing as the Jeep because the Jeep seems faster and can shoot in any direction than the Helicopter. The Jeep can also jump gaps, by pressing the B button as well. In some stages, the jeep can transform to continue the stage. For example, the jeep will transform into a boat (only in stage 3) and a jet (only in stage 4). If you are playing by yourself and want to play as the Helicopter, just press the SELECT button on the title screen and change from the Jeep to the Helicopter. I recommend this game if you are a fan of shoot 'em ups, the first time I ever played this game was in the late 1990s and I still enjoy it to this very day. Overall, this game is very fun and can be challenging.Read full review
Many years ago, I had a SNES system , This one game in particular was always a challenge to just get to the 2nd stage, It features a decent 2Player Coop mode where You play as a Helicopter and Jeep passing through war zones littered with enemy vehicles and artillery. there is no difficulty setting and Once you are hit with enemy fire, you lose a life. You can pickup powerups on the way by destroying certain buildings and these powerups can assist in defeating enemies . Strategy is key in matching the right weapon with the right target . , This game is a great side scroll style game.
forward scrolling shooter, 1-2 player, jeep with cannon or Hilo. good music great graphics and very hard to beat. levels can spawn NPCs in a random position. 6 levels all beat able :) I bought it because it was one of the first games I got when I was younger and it was stolen. ran across this one and had to have it. still love playing it
