The best book for your money when starting to buy gemst
This book is totaly awesome. I have been buying and selling stones for 30 years and 7 years ago I came across this book. It is the best handy guide I have and I use it daily. In fact, I have been given stones without a clue as to what they were and the book helped me discover that i had Axinite. A rare stone no one wanted in my town because it looked like brown quartz and had no name. Now that i found out what it is and i know it's worth a lot. With the help of the book, I bought the entire lot of Axinite and as a bonus i found it has an interesting color change if facet cut. Now i need an Axinite cutter! I want to reccomend this book to anyone wanting to learn about precious gemstones and the treatments used in todays market. Also a lot of scientific data helpful when trying to identify ... This is a perfect travel sized handbook with excellent color photos and gemstone data to help you make a positive Identification. not only does it cover the very common precious gemstones but lesser known semi precious gems this handbook is a great piece of reference material but is also so easy to follow that it would make for a great introduction of gems to children as well

Amazing book for the beginner gemologist and great info
This covers 95% of the stones you will encounter in the gemstone market. Even Australian opals and Tanzanian Tanzanites are covered in the book. Each page is full of info and statistics to help identify if your hunch is correct. From quartz to the precious metals and diamonds. This is an all around top choice for gem books i have ever used and i still use it daily.
