Compelling historical account
An interesting read which brings to life the hardships faced by the poor in Victorian Britain and especially by women. The author has attempted to piece together the lives of the five official Ripper victims from documentation of the period and created a compelling account which includes an indictment of the distortions reported about the victims, a product of the prurient attitudes and double standards applied to women.

This book had me hooked I read it over 2 nights. It was very sad reading about these women who all had good respectable lives who then turned to drink and couldn't cope with life . All in all this book is a must have even if the ripper murders dont interest you.

Having read an article on this book, I wanted to know more about these poor women that had survived, but it's never been shown on television and I didn't know any women had survived. What a book, riveting from start to finish. I bought it from the historical point and highly recommend.

This book is amazing. It gives these unfortunate women a voice. I am so glad this book was written, these women were not all prostitutes and should not continually be labelled as such. The research that went into this book is staggering. Highly recommended.
