About this product

Product Information

Project Origin is more action oriented than the original F.E.A.R. Tight interior spaces bring back the tension of the first game, while large outdoor levels and mech suit combat aim directly for fast-paced, heart-pounding battle. However, as in the original F.E.A.R., a central feature in Project Origin is the ability to use the main character's enhanced reflexes to effectively slow time, for a "bullet-time"-like effect in combat and other action events. Another game feature is interactive environments that allow players to move and alter obstacles in order to clear a path or create cover, adding to the tactical possibilities for both sides in the fight. Throughout single-player adventure, scripted sequences, and dynamic combat put forth a stream of violent, fast-paced first-person shooter action, punctuated with a mix of sniping, exploration, puzzle solving, and story development.

Project Origin players follow the mission of Delta Force Sergeant Michael Becket and his crew, as they move to secure Genevieve Aristide, president of the technology company Armacham. Aristide's counter-advised continuation of the Origin Project, which seeks to tap into the vast psychic powers of the girl Alma Wade, must be stopped. Alma's body may be destroyed, but aspects of her tortured soul live on -- in the twisted aberrations that prowl the cloning laboratories, and throughout the doom and destruction that will lay an entire cityscape to waste. The game begins thirty minutes before the end of the original F.E.A.R., allowing players to view the first game's final events from Becket's perspective and then continue on in the aftermath.

As may be expected, the Project Origin sequel boasts larger maps, more weapons, and smarter enemies than featured in the original F.E.A.R. game, and developer Monolith promises a continuation of the storyline with the integrity of the original -- ignoring parallel plotlines and side events in TimeGate's Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate expansion packs, at least for now. In addition to the solo campaign, as many as 16 virtually enhanced players can try to put the F.E.A.R. into one another online, in a selection of deathmatch, capture-the-flag, conquest, and other team-style multiplayer competitions.

  • Nice addition to the F.E.A.R. series.

This game carries on the F.E.A.R. tradition with what seems like a new engine. The game plays more like Half-life2 than F.E.A.R. 1 or F.E.A.R. Perseus. I can't compare it to F.E.A.R. Extraction Point since I haven't played that one yet. The graphics are different, and the game runs a bit smoother. Gameplay runs from sometimes ridiculously easy to very difficult in the HARD setting as the game progresses. Like the other F.E.A.R.s the difficulty can be changed if you get to a point where you can't continue. I haven't had that problem in this one, but have in the others. Nothing can ruin the fun like being stuck at a point where you can't go on with the game. It plays well considering I play it on my old P4 3.2/2 gig/256 meg video machine. It surprised me. I initially attempted to set the ...

  • More action then the first.

This was a fun ride. I recently played the first one because a friend recomended it, and then I wanted to play 2nd. Playing the second game you can feel it is more console orientated. The AI didn't seem as good and the support for mouse thumb buttons is not there. Graphics wise, Monoliths engine still holds up well and looks great. Since the latest patches the widescreen aspect ratio has been fixed so it looks normal again. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a solid shooter with some great scary moments, and a must play for FEAR fans. I'd give it a 85/100.

  • Great Single Player

This game deal with a very intenste and exciting gameplay, combined with some horrifying moments that fills your blood with adrenaline. The great story and graphics make it worth playing. Comparing to the original FEAR, the story doesn't stay always the same, and you're not just acting the same over and over, in this one, there is always something new. to me getting on a mechmachine and destroying buildings was the funnest part.
