    This is the perfect summertime read for any child from nine to 90! I wanted to have a paperback copy available to lend to my young friends and the children of friends. (I have my own cherished copy).Ms. Enright weaves a fast paced adventure story with timeless values; as well as demonstrating what the young and old can teach to, and learn from, one another. I still take it out to enjoy an hour of escape with Portia, Julian, Aunt Minnehaha, and Uncle Pin. An added bonus is Katie, the Jarmans' Boxer and her fun family of wrinkly puppies. (The Boxer was my family's breed of choice, owning our first when I was a toddler until the present, when my service dog is an 85 lbs. brindle Boxer). Happiest of all, the saga continues with "Return to Gone-Away", of which I will write not one word so that ...

    I read these books as a child and 70+ years later, I wanted to reread them. The books are interesting and the people in them, possibly a bit old-fashioned now, are folks you'd like to know.
